"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Moved to the new A La Carte last night and am quite pleased.

Previously had Digital Standard + Time Shifting U.S. and Sports Pack 1 for $46.

Took the new Digital Standard + 15 channels for $15 and save 3 bucks with channels I prefer (they also threw in TMN + superstations and SE for a month).

Videotron's pick n pay is still better since all their channels are on offer for pick n pay but overall Bell's attempt is an improvement over the previous offering.

As I mentioned above, there is only one channel you need to select in SD version with the HD Themes and it is TSN and I am sure of it. Regarding NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and PBS, they are in ''

Just spent over an hour on the phone with the Bell rep. Almost made the switch the CSR put 29 of 30 channels but when he tried to enter Speedvision he couldn't find it anywhere! He did everything in his power to get the issue resolved to no avail; said he would have call back once the issue was resolved.
I was able to see it in 2 different places once loged in to my Bell account - TV - Shopping - Channel Line up and also in packages HD + 30 A La Carte. Just went back to the site and I can no longer see it in Packages, in fact the packages page is blank!!! Coincidence maybe - I can still see it in Channel line up though. I will post the bottom line once I know what's what - I was told that Basic=$25.00+30 "30 A La Carte" channels=$22.00+TMN= $11.00+HD pack $10.00 + 3 network fee for a total of $71.00. A good deal for my needs but no Speedvision is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks Panache. That answers my question. I will not be needing any SD channels since both my sets are HD. That means I'll be able to choose less a-l-c channels and put that money towards another movie package.

I did make the switch and I think TSN and NBA TV are the only ones that you need in SD. That means the free HD channels are really free? I mean, I read on the brochure that you need to have the SD version to get them for "free", some are bundled together like RDS-RDS HD and The Score-The Score HD, but I'd never thought that I could have the 4 American major networks in HD for free. I did take them in SD because I had to take 15 channels, but I have PBS HD, which I don't have in SD.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

i guess for me i need to call bell tv because i can't change my service to the new platform. i tried but it still the old packages. Maybe because i am a old customers.

I wish we could take ONLY HBO Canada. Or that Bell would split those Movie Channels. I would mind to pay 2.50 just for HBO!

TO PANACHE: I do not have a HD TV but I can still see the HD American networks (ABC, NBC. CBS. PBS) on their HD grid on my regular TV

Does this mean I can rid myself of the SD 4 channels from "a la carte" and choose others since i will still be able to see the 4 networks on the HD grid ?? I just joined BELL last week and did not notice that the US networks are free.

Well finaly got to the bottom line - the brochure is the law; the web site info is wrong. They resolved my issue by giving the best of the best at a discount - was the only way I could get Speedvision!
Now I have more channels than I could ever watch and save a bit too (20%off for a year)
Still wantto see Speedvision included in the A La Carte and also in HD

There's something I want to know. Panache, you seem well informed, could I just take the Basic, with all those free channels, and 4 HD themes? If so, that means TSN is costing me $15 per month...

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Vicky, I also just got off the phone with a CSR.
I can confirm everything you have said above.
Here are a few more details:

In order to get A LA CARTE programming you must purchase a BASIC package (all french and english canadian netowrks) for 25$. This is basically a skinny version of digital standard which is normally 34$ but without the non-network channels like Treehouse, W network etc.

Once you have this new BASIC you can choose one of the A LA CARTE or "Top" packages listed in the previous post. A "Top" package is basically a package with pre-selected channels in it. No changes can be made to "Top" packages, so you have to like what they have selected for you otherwise you can go to A LA CARTE and select your own channels.

I was told that the "favourites" pack includes the following: TLC, Military, BBC World, CNN, CNBC, Golf, A&E, BET, Fox News, Spike, HLN, Teletoon Retro, CTS, Miracle, MTV2, WGN, Bite, CMT and MuchMusic all for 5$. The "favourites" is a 5$ add-on to any A LA CARTE package and cannot be purchased alone.

I was first told that the new Quebec programming platform is only available to new customers on a 2-year contract. I spoke to rententions and they allowed me to switch over.

I also confirmed that any 30% or 40% retentions discount will "stick" even if I am on the new platform.

I was however told that any "Quebec attack" receiver rental credits would not "stick". It was difficult for the agent to determine if the receiver credits I had were considered "Quebec attack" credits (I guess there are tons of receiver rental credits). Again, a rententions supervisor confirmed that in my case the rental credits would in fact "stick" but I caution everyone to get a confirmation on this before switching platforms.

In the end, I opted for the Best of the Best package which is essentially all the theme packs (english & french) + Movies + 5 HD themes.

The cost is: 25$ Basic + 60$ Best + 11$ Movies + 15$ HD = 111$.

I originally had: Digital Standard 34$ + 7 themes & Movies 49$ + HD 15$ + two Pick & Pay 5$ = $103.

New: At 111$ with 40% discount = 66.60$ + 3$ digital service fee = 69.60$

Old: At 103$ with 40% discount = 61.80$ + 3$ digital service fee = 64.80$

The difference is a whopping 4.80$ more to get every single theme pack (SD&HD) + Movies and Superstations.

It looks like a great deal for Quebec to either beef up their programming for almost no increase, or get rid of unwanted channels and save some money.

They kept reminding me that if I left the "Theme Pack" platform there is no way to go back to it. YMMV with retentions if you are an existing customer and want to go to the new platform. I would imagine a lot of folks from other provinces will want to switch over, so I expect retentions will be getting a lot of calls.

Good luck to all, and please feel free to ask me any questions. I spent over 45 minutes with BellTV today, so I pretty much have all the info.

By the way, if you have TSN and TSN2 in your A LA CARTE or Top package you WILL get TSN and TSN2 in HD if you have the Sports HD theme.

*** And don't forget, the prices I mentioned above do not include the 10$ bundle discount!!!

Interesting Stingray,

At least they made it right with the 20% discount.

So Speedvision is not available A LA CARTE, only in BEST OF THE BEST...

Are there any other channels that are not included A LA CARTE?

Would be nice to have a list available here, so people who want to go A LA CARTE would know in advance what is NOT available...

With the new packages in Quebec, can you get RDS HD without RDS?

What about TSN2?

the only thing is i don't see the tcm on the movies packages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

I imagine that if you see the HD versions of the US networks on your standard definition television, it is because you have an HD capable Bell TV receiver connected to it.

If this is the case, you could technically remove the US Network choices in SD from your A LA CARTE picks.

However, I would expect the SD versions of these channels to look better on your SD television. SD channels are in 4:3 format, while HD channels are in 16:9 format.

If you tune to channel 1200 NBC HD on your SD television, you will probably see large black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. Not ideal, but it's your choice.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

You are sure? What about NBA TV? I am sure you need the SD since I have the HD sports theme but no NBA TV in HD.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Panache70, thanks for the informations. But their is a question i still need to ask because i have received today an e-mail from bell tv, and they send me the old packages brochure???? I guess not all of them know about the new packages.

But in the new deal, i do not see TCM and AMC on hit. Is it possible its is only available for the rest of canada and exclude Quebec? Just a thought. Because when a company have "concours" things that you could win, like GamesTV, quebec people can't play bingo interactive. Any idea about tcm and amc?
