I need a new car and am deciding between a 91 toyota corolla with 16000 miles for $3000 or 07 toyota yaris with 16000 miles for $9000.

I Yaris is perfect with out a doubt, but I am skeptical about the loan. Then when I found the corolla with with such little miles I was curios.
The corolla has been sitting down in NYC for 16 years. It was in a minor fender bender but has been very recently repainted and everything fixed. The guy says there is no rust or rot or anything wrong with the car. I am just worried there could be something internally wrong with the car. I know all the gaskets need to be changed, but any ideas or comments?

With only 16K on the clock on a 91 car - are you absolutely sure it hasn't been clocked (the mileage wound back)?

I'd be very suspicious of this car. I'd want absolute proof that it was unused during those 16 years.

Other than that, sitting around unused for 16 years, there are all sorts of things than time alone can corrode. Check all the rubber bits, seals, gaskets, pipes etc. If the engine hasn't had a complete rebuild, then you are going to have endless problems.

Check that all the filters and liquids have been changed.
