8PSK Conversion

You might as well pack your bags then because this conversion is about adding more HD channels, not about adding more BW to existing channels. It might have that effect in the short term, if Bell converts all the transponders before they need the space. They might also just convert them as needed. Who knows!

What will Bell be doing about the owners of the older 6000. I understand they don't support 8PSK out of the box. Will they be offered the 8PSK module or an upgrade to the new 6131?

Update: Sorry just read that Bell is offering to swap 6000 for the new 6131. I guess 8PSK in coming (at last)
 
Just testing. I would imagine after the testing phase they will mimic a few channels, then move them to tp5 and continue with another tp.
 
When Did Golf HD come onto bell i turned my HD channels on the other day and there it was on channel 854 i think it was, is there any other channels that are coming soon
 
How long should this take to complete? days, weeks, or months?

I really hope that they add any new channels to the HD theme packs already in place. Not sure I would pay for anymore HD theme packs when they are so small.
 
there would be no way for bell to get the quality of OTA HD because they have too many channels crammed onto the sat. with OTA there signal only carries one channel. that goes for cable and shaw direct too
 
Once again the quality on the HD channels on my equipment is very good. Do not have any complaints as the picture is excellent. Not sure if this is due to the 8PSK conversion if in fact this has occurred. Wish the providers could fix the audio levels.
 
dishnetwork in the US just started offering SD and HD content both in MPEG on there new sat at 77. they are using that sat for there new "eastern arc" program. never did find out if they are offering non-HD recievers that are MPEG4
 
Thank you Pinza. Here's hoping that Bell comes up with a new two TV solution before they make the jump to MPEG4. I currently have a 9200 running in dual mode. I'll be very upset if I have to give up this capability if/when I switch to an MPEG4 receiver.
 
Not everyone sees the same thing......what is great quality for one person may not be for another. It is very subjective. Watched the Derby on saturday in HD on a 100+inch screen and the quality was terrible eventhough our host thought the picture was fantastic. Mind you after a few drinks a lot of PQ improves significantly!
 
The Sharks/Ducks game looked absolutely perfect on my set. I didn't see any of the artifacts at any time.
 
Another reasoning for the difference between NBCHD and ABCHD is NBC broadcasts in 1080i and is being down converted by Bell to 720p (loss of quality by doing this). ABCHD is broadcast in 720p, so no additional conversion exists.
 
Apperantly DirectTV's channels that are not MPEG4 look likes Bell's terrible channels, sometimes even worse I hear. I think once Bell makes the switch to MPEG4 we should be good. I dont understand why Bell didnt do the MPEG4 switch before the 8PSK, any wild guesses to when they will make the MPEG4 switch?? Do you think they will do it before Nimiq 5?
 
Hopefully soon enough they will put the american east superstations on 8PSK.

have they increased the bitrate of any of the channels they converted to 8PSK?
 
I guess you have confirmed my thoughts...that although there was a firestorm of activity on these boards as the conversion was happening...(with all the speculation)...since the conversion has finished...Bell has really done nothing to enhance our viewing pleasure.

And we had such high hopes...:rolleyes:
 
the 8psk is a form of compression and in no way would it improve PQ. the only thing that will improve PQ quality would be a switch to MEPEG 4 or bell goes back to 1080p for all HD channels.
 
There appear to be four test HD channels on TP05, but nothing us regular people can view.
