check crank position censer for your spark problem because if u have electronic ignition then the distributor needs a signal of the crank, the camshaft position censer will control your fuelling and injection but not sure if your car is injected been quite early(1988)

I have a 1988 ford ranger xlt 2.9 liter, i have no power to the fuel pumps, or inertia switch i also have no spark from any of the spark plugs. i have bought a new EEC power relay, and a new fuel pump relay. i am sure the pumps are working because it is not probable that all 3 pumps ( rear tank, front tank and high pressure) went out at once. i have checked all fuses and connections with a test light. the fuses are good and all of the connections are good (except the wires leading to the fuel pumps). when i preform the fuel pressure test (where you push in the little stem and fuel shoots up) the truck only had a little bit of fuel pressure.i have checked the distributor cap (for my spark problem) and tested it with the test light, it was good. the rotor looks good but for some reason i cannot get spark to the plugs. the coil is good and all other electrical components leading to the distributor have power i just cant seem to get spark or fuel......please any suggestions are appreciated.

A test light only tells you if you have power there or not. I wouldn't go off it though because what it don't tell is how much power you have there. You to get yourself a digital Multimeter and use it. It could tell you if have the right amount power in that circuit or not. Its more reliable. Also just because you think the fuel pumps or good and working, that don't mean that they are. Take them out if you can and also do electrical tests, with the same meter. I would think that they take 12 volts to power them. Another thing, the thing about the fuel pressure test. That's not a fuel pressure test what you did. The little needle that you pushed and fuel came out, that was a service port for a fuel pressure tester. You need one of those to test for fuel pressure. Yes I know fuel came out, but that don't let you know if there's enough pressure. Also check fuel lines to make sure that have no bents, kent's, or cracks in them. The thing about your spark plugs. Why not take them out and see if the electrodes are damaged. Or any other pat of the spark plug for that matter. The spark plugs can tell you the story of how well the engine is running. I would check the battery. All troubleshooting starts with the battery. You might have a weak or faulty battery. You know, may not be getting power to anything. Use your meter to check the connections to the distributor. Also check your crank positions sensor and your cam position sensor. On vehicles if you computer don't see a signal from them, it wont let the vehicle crank. Good luck
