I recently bought a 88 Dodge Dakota pick up truck (rear wheel drive automatic) When running the lights, the low-beam's work but when I pull the lever to change to High Beams, the lights go out and I am driving dark. Then once I "turn off" the high beams the low beams come back on and I have light.
Currently I am thinking it is the switch unit itself, possibly the leads could be corroded on the unit because the previous owner did not use them very much.
Could it be fixed by taking the unit out and cleaning the leads?
Would it be best to get a new unit and install it?
What could cause this?
