8700 As Modem (TMobile Users)

This will work for 8800 on Tmobile too if you make one change, the extra initialization commands must be:
+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
for it to work on the 8800.

Works for me. Thank you for original post. I used an 8700 on my old laptop that still has the DM from my 7290. I tried this on my desktop but that has a 4.2 that came with a pearl and doesn't work.

Shame though, its so slow its barely useable.

Tmob doesn't offer edge here in uk because we have 3g available. Problem tho is there are no 3g BBs. Ah what luck. Maybe santa will bring us a 3g BB if we're nice.

I'm having the same problem as BBWitz above : installed BB device manager 4.2. Modem installed well (shows as both COM4 and COM5 in system / device manager). When I go to the "Standard modem" / diagnostics and click on "Query modem", I get an error saying "The port that modem is attached could not be opened. This may be the result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional". Device manager shows no problem at all.

I finally got this to work with my BB8700. At first, i did not add the string to my modem properties...though it would dial, it would keep telling me user name/password invalid. Added the string with the IP characters in it, and it works great now! Thanks fellas

I couldn't get this to work. Specifically, I couldn't get "COM 5" to show up on the list of modems when trying to set up the new internet connection. Any ideas on how to fix this. I downloaded Desktop Manager 4.2.1.8. Thanks.

My 8700g with os 4.2.1.108 with the kastest dm from tmob doesn't work.

Before I updated the os I was using os 4.1.0.286 with the dm from a 7100v and it worked.

Very annoying I think its the new os. Xp recognizes the bb when I select query modem.

Or maybe I need to try another dm version.

Here in the uk the dm that came with the 8100 tmobuk was garbage and u couldn't tether with that.

I'll just keep on trying.

Thanks for this thread! my husband and I had heard from another bb user that we needed bluetooth to connect to my laptop (i'm using 8700g) it wouldnt work no matter what my husband did.. I searched the stacks for this thread, knowing there has to be something regarding this.. After struggling with setting it up, installing and re-installing the DM twice, figured out that I had to add the "at" and "IP" in the execution string.. pah! got it to working, thanks so much y'all for this! the stacks rules

I don't see any com ports on my device manager after connecting my BB. I have the DTM open and the Device Manager open. I made sure my firewall on the BB was Enabled. I also tried it as disabled with no luck.

It was working fine before the OS & DTM upgrades. Anyone know which DTM works?
