sounds like the timing chain is worn and the TFI ignition module is over heating (it will eventually fail completely and you wont be able to restart even after it cools off)
you may be able to replace TFI ignition module and get a few thousand miles but you will need to replace the timing chain & gears soon.

TIP
when it stalls and wont restart check for spark
if there is spark when the engine won't start then the TFI ignition module is good.

You have more than 1problem, but here's a couple of ideas. Is it an automatic, and the transmission is worn out? When it gets hot from overworking, is it also OVERHEATING and has to cool down to start. Finally because of age, the catalytic converter may be plugged up and causing it to "drag" if trans is ok. hope this helps good luck

Hmmm as much info as possible would help. Manual or automatic?
It's carbureted right? It could be flooding. make sure the choke is opening properly. I wish I could get under the hood :-P then we could figure it out. More details please :-D

Will start fine, idle great. To go you need to keep the rpms high. If I turn off the rig or if it dies has to sit for a couple of hours before it will start again.I have no idea what this could be.
manual tran, 2.9lL ENGINE EFI
