86 Ford Mustang LX Overheating?

I have an 86 mustang LX 2.3 L and it seems to be over heating.. mostly when idling at a stop light or for a long trip. I have noticed that the electric fan is not kicking on as the engine heats up, however turning on the AC manually kicks the fan on the the overheating stops. Now I know there is a ECT sensor or something controlling the fans turning on withthe heat. and Im aware it prob needs replacing but i cant seem to find anything on where the damn thing is located or what it even looks like... any help?

last one I looked at had 2 temp sensors somewhere near the upper radiator hose, one was for the gauge and the other for the colling fan.If you were to unplug the cooling fan sensor then the fan should turn on or a check engine light go on depending on how it is wired

it is definatly the coolant temp SENDER
it only has 1 wire
if you dissconect it and touch it to ground the fan will come on.
it is located on th intake manifold near the distributer cap. pointing toward the wheel or mabey the fire wall.
i cant remember without looking.
