850mhz overrated???

lol.......i'll take them tonight and get them up. My wife took the memory stick to get pix developed. I with I could take the pix with the N73....but that would be kind of tough!

I thought 850 would be essential in my place, but I find T-Mo doesn't roam on 850 in the black hole of my house, so I can get away with 1900 (although I can't find a phone outside of the nokia 6030 that can pick up a decent signal).

Cingular 1900 actually works better than T-mo 1900 in my house. That is the freaky part!
 
I have noticed that when I am outdoors and in my regular driving routine my old a$$ 8890 has superior signal and call quality over ANY of my phones right now. When I walk into any of my restaurants or my office I get zippie. Figure that one out. I know 850 is suppose to "penetrate deeper" into buildings and what not but why the hell would a 1900 only be significantly stronger out doors....and I mean significantly. I have traveled in between the same restaurants for 14 years and used phones that were as big as my laptop so I'm not a noob in regards to RF. All I can say is that in buildings, no 850 is like being without air. No chance! So you naysayers who believe we are 850 winers!!
 
This thread is almost as useless as the "made in finland" threads.

For some people (on Tmobile in metro areas) an 850 capable handset is as handy as a verizon RAZR in London. For other people (Cingular rural customers?), 850 is a must have.

What the OP really should have said is "I'm on Cingular and live in Sacramento, CA. Does anyone know how much 850 Cingular uses in my neighborhood?" There is at least some hope of getting a useful answer to that question...
 
I had the N93 for a week, the lack of 850 made me sell it. I live not too far from the highway (I-95) where there's plenty of towers and I couldn't catch a signal. I couldn't make a damn call in a restaurant near a tower for that matter.
 
I just realized, the phone I've had for the past like 3 years (SE T610) doesnt even have 850!!! I've always hated it for dropping calls. I mean, its not THAT bad, but enough to know I should probably wait for the n95 which has all bands. Damn! That's like another.....6 months from now??!!!

Reason I ask is because I asked in some other thread what causes that horrid sound on my car's speakers when a call comes in, and someone said it's due to 850. However, with my Nokia 8800, I still get that damn sound (it kind of sounds like loud buzzing or something of the sort).
