BAGHDAD (AP) – Iraqi officials say a wave of bombings targeting homes and emergency responders has killed 28 people north of Baghdad.
Police said bombs were planted around five houses in Taji, a Sunni town located 12 miles north of the capital, killing 17.
When rescue workers rushed to the scene to help, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-rigged belt. Eleven policemen died in the blast.
The casualties all were confirmed by a medic at Kazimiyah hospital in northern Baghdad.
All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
