Me and a colleague were discussing which is the best music that accompanied a montgae scene in a 80's film

ie - "You the best ...around" - Karate Kid Training montage

Other we liked....

Dangerzone - Top Gun (start credits)
Eye of the Tiger - Rocky 3 (fight montage)
Burning heart - Rocky 4 (Training montage)

Any others?????

There are loaRAB of great montage pieces, however I often distance the movie and music.

"The heat is on" is great montage music, but I'm not sure that it was used in a montage

"Secret of My Sucess" with Michael J Fox has a great montage when he is first leading his double life but forget the name of the song

So no real contenders so far. Ferris Beuller to the SOng by Yello. Was it called Oh Yeah
And Flesh on fire from Teen Wolf

You have really specific film discussions don't you ;)

How about 'We Are Not Alone'; the 'going wild' bit near the end of The Breakfast Club.

A thread inspired by the Team America mickeytake I presume?

'Fame' must have had at least one with that classic theme tune. It may even have started the craze.

Flashdance did too - welding and dancing in a sweaty fashion (as homaged in a recent JLo video) to Maniac 'dancing like she's never danced before'.

You have to have Footloose by the crazy Kenny Loggins as well during the final dance in Footloose. A film where they banned dancing in a town. I mean brilliant set-up.

-We've banned dancing in this town young out of towner
-You mean I can;t do this, (does a dance step)
- No. Don't do that again. If you do the local boys will get you. I'll be watching you stranger
- Stranger thinks (I know I'll organise a secret dance for the youngsters where we will all dance and no secret references will be made to other banned teenage activities)

I think Pretty In Pink Starring Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy had a briliant ST Including songs from The Psyhodelhic Furs, Suzzanne Vega, The Smiths and Echo And The Bunnymen.

Though I thought St Elmos Fire theme Tune great also.

The Breakfast Club also. Eeeek Maybe I was just a Brat Pack fan.

Great songs play a big part in a movie though as the OP says Rocky!!
It is not surprising that Quientin Tarrantino picks all his songs and music before he starts to put his film together with Blockbusters such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Resvoir Dogs.

Nancy, Beverley Hills Cop springs to mind with Axel getting thrown around in back of van with cartons of cigarettes spilling out the back.

I really enjoyed John Candy miming to Mess Around by Ray Charles when driving in Planes,Trains & Automobiles.

No just his coat, smoking a cigarette which he throws out the window which then gets sucked into the back window and sets the car on fire later. Brilliant :)

How could I forget.

Imagien the scene, you've just come back from a tough training mission over the desert. You have a hot date with your civilian instructor later on that evening. Why not play a little volleyball with some co-workers to "playing with the boys"

True montage style and class
