8 years old boy got asthma, please help!

Allergy shots will be our last hope since he is just 8.

Thanks for encouraging me, hopefully he can outgrow it.
 
This is a worried mommy in the forum, my son suddenly had his first asthma attack 5 weeks ago, he was on nebulizer for 10days and antibiotics since he has some bronchitis, after the treatment, the coughing and wheezing stopped. we send him for skin allergy test, and he is allergic with pretty much everything we tested, from tree pollen, grass pollen, weed pollen to animal hair, dust mites, mold..........i was so shocked!
Now we have to fight the asthma devil, and he started Singulair to prevent him from more asthma attacks for 2 weeks, but his wheezing came back from last Thursday, every morning, if you put the ear on his chest, you can hear the wheezing, and get better during the day, sometimes, the wheezing gone during the day. He has cough with some mucus, but not too bad, and he can sleep well at night, no coughing, and no wake up. Is this normal with Singulair? By the way, he has allergic rhinitis, Dr. treat him with a steroid nasal spray once a day.

Since he has a really bad environmental allergies, I am thinking about to treating w/NAET, can
 
My poor son has another health problem, tics. Natural theropy with be the best way for him to control asthma.

My sister has severe asthma and we are all on watch for any starting signs of an attack! It is horrible having a family meraber with Asthma as it scares the hell out of you. Try using anti- histamines? These not only control the allergy, they (as they say in the name) control the realise of histamine which causing the itch and help with actually trigger of your bodies defences. It has also been proven that anti-histamines (allergy tablets) help with Asthma. They help keep the lungs open!
Also, if the mucus is green or yellow its a sign of infection, but i see the doctor has already addressed this. one way to relieve mucus on the chest is a basic Guifenesin (not sure how its spelt). It helps to loosen mucus and brings it up instead of sitting on the chest causing the Asthma to worsen.

My son was diagnosed with asthma and allergies at age 6..he's 7 now. It took a few months to find the right corabo of meRAB for him. He is now taking Advair inhaler, loratodine, and singulair..and has the ProAir Albuteral inhaler for rescue. His allergies are so bad that his nose is just about completely blocked during the Spring and Fall..but since he's been on this corabo of meRAB, he has not had that problem. If he misses his meRAB one day, I surely know right away! I recommend you asking his doc to try this corabo. I know it is scary to have to give your child so many meRAB, but it is even more scary to think about him having an asthma attack when you can prevent it from happening by giving him what he neeRAB. I completely understand what you are feeling..but you have to realize the importance of giving him the meRAB he neeRAB. Children can out grow asthma, but in order for there to be a chance, you have to treat it while he has it. Also, once he is on the right corabo..he will be able to do whatever he wants as far as activities...my son was finally able to play soccer this Summer..he was thrilled! Good luck!

Thanks for your kindly help, I will give him some antihistamine. The morning wheezing is really bother me even though my son doesn't complain anything. He has really bad allergic rhinitis and Dr. gave him steriod nasal spray plus Singulair, hate to put him on more med since he is just 8.

Hopefully his sathma can get well controlled.

I'm sorry your family is dealing with this. Don't despair, it WILL get better once you find the right treatment.

Singulair might help a lot, or you might have to keep trying until you find the right medicine. He might need an inhaled steroid, it's generally considered the best medicine for asthma in the long term. Because it goes directly to the lungs, there are very few side effects, and it takes down the inflammation that causes the wheezing.

I would recommend allergy shots (immunotherapy) instead of NAET. I am currently undergoing allergy shots to treat my asthma, and next spring I'll tell you if it's working.

What kind of doctor has he seen? Did the doctor discuss any other treatments if this plan doesn't work?

By the way, some young boys actually outgrow asthma during puberty, or at least have a significant decrease in symptoms. Not all, but some.
 
I'm going the immunotherapy route myself, but I have a friend who had herself and her children treated with NAET and they had some good long-term success with it. I don't see that it would hurt if you have a good trained practitioner. I'm just not sure how completely effective it is. It is certainly worth considering though.

Yes, it is scary to have to give the child so many meRAB since my son has another health problem, he has tics, and all kind meRAB can make him tic more........

I am too panic to make any decision now, and don't know where to seek help since he has a little bit wheezing everyday with some cough.
He has no short of breath, no chest tightning, no need for inhaler, but how can we control this wheezing?

I can understand you wanting to be very careful, but there has got to be a pulmo at a Children's Hospital that you can take him to and get him proper treatment. I took my son to Akron Children's Hospital to be evaluated for asthma and his pulmo is excellent. Of course, I live in Ohio..not sure where you live. My son didn't have any of those symptoms either..only that strange cough and wheezing. The meRAB/inhaler got rid of it tho! I'm not sure what meRAB your son can have, but they do give liquid albuteral to open up the airways and stop wheezing. If it goes untreated then his asthma will get worse. Honestly..from a mother to a mother...I would at least get him into a pediatric pulmo at a Children's Hosp...and have him evaluated. In the mean time, get a dehumidifier and put it in his room. I had to buy a new vacuum that has a hepa filter too. I hope you don't take my message the wrong way, I'm only trying to help. It's just really important that you get him treated before it does more damage to his lungs. I hope you understand that I'm just trying to help you understand.
