I will also had this: I was a tech 2 agent lping clients everyday solving technical issues and connecting their receivers the right way

I was renting 2X3100 and wanted to exchange them for a 5900 and I had to pay the tech's fee of 75$

All that he did is take the SAT in cable and connect it in the 5900, and take a coax cable and run it from the receiver to the TV

Less than 5 minutes...

He didn't even programm the remote so that it controls the TV I did it myself

When I upgraded to the new 9242 PVR they tried to tell me it would be a $150 charge for instalation. I told them to cancel my service was free and rogers would hook me up with all the same stuff for free seeing I would be new to them. The lady transfers me to someone else and wala no more install fee.

Also I bought the box and when I first asked how much she told me $500 something. I tell her I see it at future shop for new customers for 299$ after rebates. I tell her I want the same deal or I'll cancel and just come back as new to get the deal. Wala I pay 299$.

It's just how it goes. You always have to lay it down to get what you want.

A rental requires the receiver to be pro installed ($75). Your old contract ended and a new one started and you should get a credit for the install in a month or two. Call them and make sure it's on your next bill. Same as your first rental . Credit is not as fast as a bill with expressvu.

Interesting since we upgraded from a standard receiver to an HD and there was not an installation charge at all. Now the charge is waived if you sign an agreement to rent the box for 1 year (at least in our case it was). There is a $100 deposit on the box which was charged to our all in one Bell account. But there is also a $100 credit the following month so the net result is no deposit and no installation charge.

The 100$ deposit is the rental certificate...which was charged on your credit card and will be credited on your first Bell Express Vu bill after you activated the receiver.

In your case there is no installatin fee due to the fact that you didn't had HD yet (or the second LNBF). You were eligible for what they call Nimiq 2 free upgrade promo. They therefore installed verything free of charge.

If you already had a HD it would have cost you to get a second HD receiver installed

I am looking to do the same, at the moment I have HD and want to disconnect my 3100 and get a HD box for the second TV.

What is the cheapest and or easiest way to get my hands on an HD receiver? Ebay? Bell itself?

I am not on a contract and own all my current receivers.

I think the 75 to drive an install truck out to deliver a reciever is cheap. Probably cost Bell more than that.

Where I work we have a minimun 4 hour charge @ 65, plus mileage, plus materials. Easiest service call I ever did was turning on a power switch on an amp. You can bet he was unhappy..... Then I did a coffee run for him, just to make him feel better.

And you got an Upgraded reciever for free? I'd think the upgrade from 6100 to 6141 would require an extra year on contract.

But, I own receivers and install myself to avoid contracts and rental agreement problems. I'd had enogh rental problems with cable before I went to expressvu.

Be careful of buying online, ask for serial numbers so you can confirm that you can add the receiver to your account
If there is a balance on the sellers account, you cant activate....

Given the current track record with 9200 and 9242 units, I'd stick with buying new. FS/BB etc have a great return/swap policy. Or rent/purchase from Bell. You won't save much (or anything) buying used for these units, may as well save yourself potential hassle. Older models, completely different story.

But in this case, there was no installation, simply a receiver swap on a rental unit.

Certainly Bev can impose whatever charges they want but I am surprised that they would allow the OP to simply goto a retail location and swap boxes at no charge. For example, With Rogers, if your cable box is malfunctioning or you want a replacement, they will generally swap at no charge.

You never get an answer to a credit request right away...
He probably asked a supervisor or team leader BEFORE filling the form to get the credit and they told him he coudn't make a request for that situation

It is still an "installation" of the new unit. May not make much sense, but that's the way it is and has been for a long time now. They don't look at it as a swap, it is a return of one unit, then a new contract and install of a different unit. Even more so in this case since the model was upgraded from a 6100 to a 6141.

Completely silly.

You can get the 6141 for $299. at FS . You can sell the extra stuff you get . Dish/SWITCH/ LNB etc to reduce your cost.

Even if there is a balance due on the seller's account the person who bought it would be able to activate it as long as the seller called EV to let them know he sold the receiver. Balance due follows the accounts, not the receivers

It doesn't matter about buying new or used

$100 was charged on my credit card when I first request for this upgrade, and the rep told me that it will be credited me back on my next bill IF I returned the 6100. It make sense that $100 is kind of security deposit in case I didn't return the old receiver...

I did return the 6100 and the $100 is credited back on my bill... but that $75 is really surprising me... How could Bell charge $75 for a third-party company to send someone to just swap the receiver...

I'm not an ExpressVu customer so I don't know the policies but this seems silly. Charging loyal customers who have completed their contracts a $75 fee to essentially return to the fold seems like a great way to lose customers!

I can't comment on this particular case, but as posted above, I believe it will be credited back. In was in my case, and in the case of others, at least for the initial rental term. This what Ex Agent EV calls a "rental certificate" fee I believe.

I can see one advantage (for Bell) to charge this fee other than the money grab of course. Imagine if every rental unit was "swapped" at the end of the rental term for an exact same model (in this case it could be argued it is an upgraded model), just theoretically newer? The impact on the business would be huge.

This is essentially what is keeping me with my 9200 rather than going to the 9242. I'll switch once there is a reason (USB activation for example), and pay the fee if required.

When i upgraded to HD: They charged a $100 fee that was returned to me in programing credits. I was to get 6 months free HD programing and they came out wiht a new dish, ran new wires and installed the HD-PVR.... My understanding was to upgrade to HD and go rental on a 2 or 3 year contract( i forget wich now) would not cost me a thing...

First bill came and they charged an extra 75$ to install additional receiver(i think the contractor did this in error or on purpose for extra pay) He did have to drill a few holes and such but never complained nor mentioned extra costs... When i called bell they without hesitation said they would refund it as i was not supposed to pay extra.... A month later the 75$ was refunded... NExt the free 6 months of HD had not kicked in... When i mentioned that to the CSR she said no problem... Then said she could only give me 3 months for some reason and said dont worry ill give you 3 months free twice......

Well im glad to report that all is well and my 6 monts FREE HD actually turned out to be 6 months FREE PROGRAMING! I am only paying HD rental fees for the last 4 months! And i have a wack of channles i never had before...

Anyway just the other side of the coin. Sometimes Bell is good :) Well they made good on there mistakes anyway :)
