68 tooth Sportster sprockets on FL's?

Topic is supposed to be FLH's, not just any FL....LOL.

Wondering if anybody has been keeping up with this and what feedback could be provided? Seems to be a direct bolt on but have no confirmation. What it does is move the FL's rear sprocket up 2 teeth from 66 to 68, replicating the '09's.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

OK, what if I said that if you change your stock 66 tooth to a Sportster 68 tooth it will give you 60 more ponies and do the 1/4 mile under 9 seconds, would it change your mind?

Seriously, people are doing this and it is supposed to make our pre-'09 bikes shift like the '09's, would this be a good thing?

Hello? I guess you guys think that putting a Sportster sprocket on your touring bike will cause you to grow a vagina........eh? You should be OK, but stranger things have happened.

I read about the same thing and I'm very interested in getting more info. What I read was they use a 70 tooth sporty sprocket not a 68.I'm not sure what year sporty they use or if it matters.I just might try it but then I'll have to recalibrate my speedo.Looking for more info.

I thought it may have been a 70 tooth sprocket as well, but I looked all the way back to 2001 and the Sportsters used a 68 tooth rear sprocket. Also the new '09's have a 68 tooth rear sprocket so I think we may have our info wrong regarding the 70 tooth.

I guess......

pn#40350-04 is the 68 tooth sprocket that will bolt up to the FL's. However, you'll lose your IDS. That's why most are changing out the front to a 30 tooth. Either way you just need to change a sprocket and a belt. Now, the question is will the 68 tooth rear sprocket and new IDS on the 09's retrofit???? That would be pn# 40217-09 SPROCKET & BEARING ASSEMBLY, rear, 68 T

Thnks Brad. I thought if you used the 68 tooth Sporster sprocket no belt change would be necessary because of the 1" width similarity?

Also, what does the new gearing to the '09's do the RPMs on top........say 70-75 mph? Increase or decrease the rpms?
