6700 issue.. anyone had this problem?

I sold a phone to a lady a while back and she's called me twice now saying that after a few days, her phone stops receiving calls... she can make calls, but the phone WILL NOT RING.

If she hard reset's the phone, it works for a few more days.. but she's had to hard reset it 4 times in the past month.

I'm fairly sure that there's nothing wrong with this phone... It's the first 6700 I bought.. I sold it because I changed to a PPC6700.... I never had these issues during the 3 months I used it...

Anyone got an idea what might be causing this?
 
Does she mysteriously get a notice of a new voice mail (sometimes quite a while after it was made) if one was made? Check the Slot Cycle Index setting, it controls the timing of the phone coming out of sleep state and checking the paging channel. If the timing is out of sync with the tower it will miss the tower signaling an incoming call or message. I set this to 1 for the shortest sleep interval, and least chance for it to loose sync. Higher nurabers are longer sleep cycles and they don't increase in a linear way. It is the only thing I can think of and have read about that causes the problems described.
 
Where is the slot cycle located on the 6700? I couldn't find it within the EPST menus...

I don't think she ever receives any notices of new voice mail, but I'm not sure, I can ask her.

If it was the slot cycle, would resetting the phone help? It doesn't seem to me that it should... or, if it did help, it doesn't make much sense that it'd get unsynced so predictably... she said it usally works for 3-4 days before it stops receiving calls.

If this was a phone I hadn't used before, I think I'd be more able to solve her problems, but the fact that I used the phone without ANY flaws for 3 months has me totally perplexed
 
I do not know the location for the 6700 but it is usually in the main NAM setup menu, if it is accessable from the phone itself. If not (like Motorola's) then you need to use the PST software for the phone.

Yes a reset would but so should turning the phone off and on again. A reset would not alter this setting AFAIK. It would only force a resync just as power off/on does. I guess I should ask, does it work properly after a power off/on or not?

CDMA relies on many things to keep sync with the network and decode the digital signal (Walsh codes, P/N oRABets, Noise Floor, accurate time of day from transmiting tower) Thats just a few, if you have ever done any techno-geek reading on CDMA technology, you would be amazed it even works at all considering all that goes on for a simple voice phone call. The slot cycle is the one setting that is easy to change without calibrating the RF of the hanRABet and won't make a brick out of it. I have messed with this setting in the past on different phones and got mixed results, all in all the shortest cycle time is the most reliable in my experience.

Another thing to try is when the phone is acting up send it a text msg. Wait a while for it to come in, if it does not arrive after a reasonable period of time, make an outgoing call from the phone and if the text msg suddenly arrives it is a sync problem for sure. By making an outgoing call, the phone forces a resync with the network. I have had it where i make a call and it's like a text and VM borab went off. Ask me why and all I can say is :confused: :befuddled :doh: :silly: :help:

BTW that borab problem I had was with the Audiovox 8910 I eventually made a brick out of. Don't know if there is any relevance due to the many different manufacturers of Audiovox - UT Starcom - Curitel - Pantec - Toshiba phones.
