the 6290 was the first running FP1, even though the N95 got released first.....

the N75 has been dated....

man the 6290 looks ugly.

I am assuming the 6290 and N75 cams are the same (and as bad as the e65/ e70 / insert other Nokia 2mp no AF cam here)

bostonirishguy,

I'm planning to get either the 6290 or N75. If you have a chance could you compare the two in terms of call quality? I'm concerned specifically about two things:

1) How is the quality of the microphone? Does it overamplify background noise. I have a 6230i, which everyone complains amplifies background noise as loud as my voice and makes it hard to hear me. This makes the phone not very usuable on the street, in cafes, anywhere that is noisy. I'm hoping a flip phone that places the microphone close to the mouth will resolve this problem. 2) How is the quality and volume of the earpiece? Is there enough volume for noisy places?

It would be great to hear a comparison of the two phones in these respects.

Also, am I correct in thinking that the microphone on the N75 is that hole located above the keypad, on the right, just beneath the red call cancel button? if so, where does that place the microphone relative to the mouth?

On a lesser note, I'm curious how the two phones compare in terms of user interface speed. It looks like the 6290 has a significantly faster processor.

Thanks.

I was away all weekend, just getting back last night (Monday was a holiday here in MA).

Volume is fine to me. I usually had it at the midpoint on the scale. Will need to ask a few people on the microphone question.

You are right about the mic on the N75. It might seem odd to place it there, but once you see how big the phone is when opened, it makes sense.

On the UI, 6290 gets the nod at this point. That's not to say the N75 is slow. I've had no issues with it. The 6290 is almost closer to an S40 in terms of speed, though. That's the best way I can describe it.

Thanks for the info!

So, to further clarify, when you open the N75, because of it's size, the microphone position above the keypad places the microphone in front of the mouth?

If you have a chance to ask people about the microphones picking up background noise on the N75 and 6290, I would be very grateful. I await further information.

Thanks again,
