6 year old asthma nasonex and asthmanex

i have a 6 year old son who has asthma. it seems like we cant get it under control. He is currentally on asthmanex 220mg(inhaled steriod) and nasonex (nasal steriod). When he has nasal drainage he wheezes. His asthma and allergy doc is not taking it serious. I have made an appointment for a second opinion. I want my son to get better and use as less medication as possible. His doc just keeps adding more meRAB instead of "fixing" the problem. Does anyone have any experience with Nasonex and or Asthmanex? He just started the Nasonex yesterday. I am just upset that he has been on Asthmanex for a while and still neeRAB oral sterioRAB. Any advise would be helpful.
 
If he truly has asthma, he will be on a daily med (most liekly a steroid) for the remainder of his childhood and probably the rest of his life (some kiRAB do outgrow asthma but not all). Is he seeing a pediatric pulmonologist? If not, I'd strongly suggest seeing one. It can be tough in little ones to get it under control.
 
I agree with a Titchou on seeing the pulmonary specialist. I personally got much better attention and treatment from my Pulmonologist than I did at my old allergy and asthma clinic.

You should make sure that you get a written asthma action plan from your specialist at your next appointment as well.
 
If you really want to reduce his use of medication, you might want to try looking for any food allergies (IgG not IgE) or intolerances. I was on several asthma medications until I discovered an allergy to gluten 6 years ago. I haven't used an inhaled steroid since. Removing allergens or intolerances reduces inflammation - which is the cause of airway constriction.

I agree with lulu23 - try and find out what your son's triggers are. There are lots of them.

I started using Nasonex a couple of weeks ago which was given to me to treat my asthma. I suffer from post nasal drip and the phlegm drips down the back of my throat and my doctor says this is what is causing the blocking of my airways. This results in my chest being very tight and constant coughing up of phlegm. The nasonex takes about a month to work and my asthma at this stage has been a bit better. I am not using my rescue inhaler as much as I was before using Nasonex.
