5900 and 16:9 setting?

I have a 6:9 HDTV and I have the Bell 5900 PVR connected via S-video to it. In the 5900 setup menu there is a setting for TV aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9. What does this do? Does it do anything at all? I have tried both settings and cannot see any difference in the picture.
 
I don't believe it does anything and I'm not sure why it's there. Possibly for some feature they planned for in the future but it's been an option in the setup for years.
 
The 5900 shares the same interface in the firmware as the 6100. This setting is not configured for the 5900. It only works on the 6100 model.
