Hello

I have a nokia 5230 (s60v5) and when I connect audio device to it e.g. Headphones, it gives me an option of three. Namely headphones, line out and music stand. Now I have noticed that the nokia 6630 suffered from distortion at max audio levels and so does the 5230. Clearly nokia knows nothing about audio.

I have used line in on my computer for cassettes but not used line out before. I'm guessing that line out has no volume control as it's designed to send a signal to another device usually with it's own volume control.

1. Is this true? Also

2. are equalizer's ignored such as the loud option (bass boost).

Thanks,

i don't consider the 5230 to even be a music phone. the quality is crappier than the 5800 that it's supposed to be based off of.

but to answer your question, the line out doesn't completely bypass the internal amp for some reason (at least on my experience) and you can still control the volume. however, it seems the quality from choosing line out varies depending on what you're connecting it to. it's definitely louder, but sometimes you get sound that is more muddy (more bass, less clarity). other times the quality is way better than the former option.

the equalizer still has an effect.

i disagree with you're statement about the music on 5230. 5230 is an entertainment phone (includes music) just like the 5800

http://europe.nokia.com/services-and-apps/entertainment/nokia-music/fm-and-internet-radio - scroll down to optimised for entertainment

i have seen a navigation edition (phone to car holder) and a ovi unlimited version (code for unlimited music) which is strange because i have both of these on my standard 5230. so i think it's just a persuader but only one 5230 model

edit: in terms of the 3 options, i can't tell the difference, the quality is the same when wired to the car. i have sony ericsson phones via fm transmitter and they sound beautiful. in terms of wiring them to the car it's just top notch! but the nokia...really bad.
