50 greatest animation movie characters

Well frankly, I can't help but want to push them lower or off the list... When i think "animated MOVIE character" i think of a character that was created for a movie. Those characters however are regular animated characters that just so happen to have a movie appearance down the line. Though if i had to give some reason to why many of those characters ended up so low, it might be that the list considered the characters based ONLY on their movie appearances... Bugs and Daffy don't look so good when you got "Space Jam" as one of your few references.

y'know top lists really should come with a disclaimer explaining their methodology behind making their list... they might get less complaining if people actually understood WHY their favorite characters ended up so low

I'm OK with Gromit at #1. There does seem to be a lack of good villain characters on the list, though. Where's Frollo and Scar?

What do you mean "down the line"? They were in theaters since 1929 -1969. They had hundreds of films. Why shouldn't they be on the list.

Hundreds of shorts. That's not to invalidate the characters, mind, but they don't belong on a list specifically about movies. Homer Simpson has even less of a right to be there.

As for the list itself, well, I'm a little confused. This is one of the oddest such lists I've seen. I don't want to make a bunch of "WHERE'S _____" type comments, but some of the choices for representatives of specific films just confound me. Why is Thumper on it, but not Bambi? Gromit instead of Wallace? Satan instead of Cartman? Donkey and Puss instead of Shrek?

The list specified "full-length feature", (even though I forgot to:sweat:). "Movie" or "Film" isn't an incorrect term to use when you're talking about shorts (even though I don't see it too often) but Empire is, by its own term's judging the character based only on their full-length theatrical "performances". (Actually, I guess you could still say the Looney Tunes characters are eligible because of all those compilation films, though the author of the list doesn't bring them up in Daffy's entry).

As odd as I think this article is, I do like the "stroke of genius" and "fun fact" section each character entry has. Those alone make it worth reading.

Mickey Mouse is #50 yet Gromit is #1? Yeah, whoever made this list is definitely not playing with a full deck because characters like Micky should have been waaaay higher on the list than #50. I'm actually quite appauled at some of the choices, seriously, I don't think I agree with 90% of this list, but I guess it does not mean anything and I know better to think that others will actually read that compilation and come anywhere close to agreeing with it.

There's a reason why you have to specifically say "SHORT" when you say "short movie" and not just "movie"...
Really it is painfully obvious that when they(and probably 99% of people for that matter) say movie they are referring to feature length films. If they weren't then they wouldn't even bother specifying the list as a "movie" list.

I dont imagine the reviewer has seen many animated films. I can think of other film characters that I thought were great. Too bad. A lot of these lists work best when they're coming from multiple people from different backgrounds, gender, and ethnicities.

I dont know, i thought Lilo really did have more personality than Stitch in the first movie. But then of course the sequels and TV-series came along and made her a totally flat straight-man...
