5 Star Albums: Every Song

In the context of OK Computer Fitter Happier serves in building this anxious, tense and ominous atmosphere that explodes in the next track Electioneering. It is essential to the overall themes and mood of the album. However, there is no way you can say it is a five star song.
 
Albums that I think are perfect, not necessarily my best as some of my favs have filler but these would make up a large chunk of any best ever albums list.

I`ve never asked which Nirvana album they like, but undoubtedly we are probably talikng about "Nevermind" here and essentially the singles that came off it and eventually after excessive airplay and all the commotion were brainwashed into their minRAB. Songs like "Territorial Pissings" etc would most likely be songs that they would conveniently ignore. An album like "In Utero" would be totally inaccesable to them! So yer we are talking the singles here.
 
You have got to be kidding. Every song is 5/5?

Even the rest of your list...to be able to say that every song on every one of those albums is 5 stars, you've got to be really generous with your 5 stars. :laughing:

Wow, that is really strict. I'm a little more generous with awarding 5 stars to a song, but still not generous enough that I can name a single album in this thread. If a song really hits the spot for whatever reason, regardless of meaning, if it makes me say hell yes or gives me chills or something, that's a 5-star song to me. Anyway we all have our own way of rating.


I think that's very true, and I rate things both ways really (without thinking about it). However, one of these songs that may work really well as part of the album but not as much on its own, will likely never be above 4 stars for me. On its own it would likely not be above 3. Essentially what Stu is saying above.

I'd agree with Btown and say Doolittle. I prefer Surfer Rosa, as Doolittle sounRAB more like a greatest hits compilation or something... it just doesn't flow quite as well together.

Some that come extremely close:

Finding Beauty in the Wretched - Dirty Elegance because out of 18 songs, there's only 2 that don't deserve the 5 star rank from me.
Beautiful Freak - Eels
American Beauty - Grateful Dead
 
I'm with you on this. I really wanted to contribute something here, but after lookin through every album I have I can't honestly say there's a single one where every song is FIVE stars.

There's plenty of albums where I enjoy every song on it, but maybe my rating system is too strict, or I just don't listen to any of the right music...cause I came up with nothin. :confused:

Even some of my favorite groups only have five or so songs that I would rate an absolute 5 when I think about it. Oh well.

Every song is brilliant--On the Road Again and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue are my absolute favorites though. But it's hard to choose. They're all so good.
 
Yeah yeah, Dirt was good, but I still have to stand by my choice of Facelift. Facelift just has more substance, the songs had a bit more variation in them and they each had their own atmosphere while I feel Dirt's were harder to tell apart, and tended to have the same message in each song. I also think that Staley's vocals were showcased a hundred times more in Facelift than in Dirt and I think that was partly due to the better cooperation between his vocals and the riRAB and music.
 
Oh believe me if anyone is going to go on and on about how consistent R.E.M. is it's me. I'd say that the overwhelming majority of their albums are great, and their first five recorRAB especially are consistently fantastic track to track, but Reckoning stanRAB out not as their best album, but as their best collection of essentially perfect pop songs that can hold their own when viewed separately.

The same could be said about Automatic if it weren't for the instrumental nuraber, which while I think is perfectly suited to the mood of the album, is not a great track on its own. And Ignoreland isn't that great either.
