5 Reasons Why The E50 is Best Having While Waiting for The E90...

we all know that experience is the best teacher, hence if you plan on getting the E90 Communicator and would want to have an easy way of learning to use it, the best way is start using an S60 3rd ed. device now... however i say, dont just get any S60 3rd phone i say get the E50 NOW!!!

here are some good resons why...

1) the E50 outside navigation and control layout is identical to the E90... see pics below... 2 soft-keys, the menu button on the left, the "C" button on the right, and then the CALL & END buttons... i think the only difference is that in the E50 it is a button joystick, the E90 has a D-pad... this will definitely prepare you in advance!!!

E50

E90

2) price wise, E50 is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest S60 3rd ed. out there, specially the camera less E50, hence you save those money for the real honey...

3) E50 menu will be similar to the E90... well, all the other S60 3rd will be similar as well, but the keypad navigation layout on the outside is a big plus, and the E50 is one of the 1st S60 with the "Search" & "Teams" business funtions which will also be available in the E90, minor thing though...

4) and on top of that, the small E50 will complement your BIG E90... if you got tired of the lugging around a 210gm communicator then relax and switch back to the 104gm E50, it is simply one of the smallest S60 in terms of weight and volume...

5) both are available in black...

I was going to jump in and add comments about everything, but I don't want to come off sounding negative, since that's not my intent. I guess I'm not into the whole E90 craze like others, and certainly not into the E50 after I've heard two members complain about it so much.

But! Teams and Search are already available for all other s60 3rd Edition devices.

E50 would be the perfect compliment to the E90 without a doubt. Traveling on business and having something like the E50 with you for evenings is just right. Just enough power to allow "some" work with you. I almost want to pull mine down off of the B/S/T! >>>>stuck w/ the office issued Pearl tho but it's kind of a nice break from s60 anyway....then once the N95 comes the energy will be their again!

I agree about the wifi although I could care less about voip as my bill is covered!
edit: although i'm sure it's extremely useful for international calls....i just dont make any of those.

Outside of the price argument, I think a better compliment to the E90 would be the E65...has wifi, as well as some new dedicated call feature buttons.

(and the slider is supposed to be solid!)

The E50 is probably the lowest featured phone of all symbian v3 devices. No idea why you'd deem it the best,,,,,

Sometimes stats and measurements dont really capture the truth of a situation. For people who want a basic smartphone, the E50 is arguably the best value for money in the current set. Depends on how you look at it.
- For example you might find 3G is key, another person might find that Edge is fantastic for my usage
- Or you might find the statitstic of "3.2Megapixel camera" exciting whereas a more cynical person might say "Nah, its still a mediocre purple haxzed phonecam"

Depends on how you view things. But it IS a full fledged S60 3rd phone and runs the exact same software the rest run - for a lot less money.

Some of this is an indictment of the value of Nokia's other phones too. If the N80 had a better battery life and was less chunky, you might have seen some E50 buyers going that direction. If the N73 had more to offer for the extra size and price, ditto.

So yeah E50 was probably a value buy for a lot of people who didnt find other current, more expensive S603rd phones worth buying at the moment. We will see if E65/N95/E90 moves these folks to buy. Jury is still out. I am one of the above, personally.

I think the E50 is a great phone for the money. I mean, cummon, its frickin $250! That's what an unbranded RAZR costs (guessing, don't care to actually look).

What are you giving up?

3G? Useless in the US.
Wifi? Important to some, not to others
Camera? It has more camera than the E61!
Screen size? Yea, it has a smaller screen.

Given that its half the cost of most other S60v3, you can't go too wrong. And if it breaks, throw it out and buy another one!

That's why it's the best IMO. Anything after that will appear to have the biggest screen you've ever seen and the features will dazzle you. I think it's a great transition phone. E50 to E90 = Porsche Boxster to 911/turbo. It's a Porsche but is it really? Same as the E50!

To be honest, I've railed against WiFi in the past, but unless I can snag a US 3G phone sometime this year, I think I'm going to have to side with you on this one. With clients like Fring, and the possibility of video calls coming soon, and UMA heating up, it's probably going to be a requirement in the next one.

Good thing about that is earlier at CES Nokia said it'll become a standard feature soon. :havedrin
