I am an expressvu customer. I have a switch which has 2 lines in and 4 lines out. 2 come from the single head on the dish, and 4 go to 4 single tuner boxes.
I just got a 9242 receiver with dual tuner, that came with a new switch that has 4 inputs (from the dish) and 4 outputs. (3 single tuners and one dual tuner)I am wondering how I get a 5th output, without getting another sw44 as suggested in the instruction.

I can usually figure these things out, but there is so many different types of splitters and diplexers(?), with power passing and power blocking, with different hertz, I haven't a clue which one I would need, or how to wire it in. Is there a way to just split one of the 4 outputs from the switch into 2 somehow? If not what are my options. Thanks.

take 2 lines from 91 lnb into your existing switch (4 output), take 2 outputs from that switch and put into 2 inputs on the sw44 switch (came with 9242), use the other 2 outputs and feed 2 single tuner receivers. then take 2 lines from 82 lnb into the other 2 inputs on the sw44. this gives you a total of 6 outputs (4 from sw44 and 2 from regular multiswitch). note...only the 4 outputs from the sw44 switch will have signal from satellite 82.

I thought of that, but I would like to have access to satellite 82 on all 5 though.

4 HD and 2 SD is the best you can do with what you currently have.

If you pick up another 3x4 multiswitch and another SW44, then you can feed 8 receivers with both SD and HD.

I would really take a hard look at the SD feeds off 82 and determine if you really need to spend the money or not. It all depends on the programming you are interested in, and unless you want the "foreign" stuff, then there is little to offer on 82 in SD.

Did u try calling Bell? The install of hd receivers are usually free when u subscribe to hd channels, even if u purchased the ird. The tech will install the 2 sw44 switches which are supposed to be free or at least credited. U may have to fight to get the free second switch. It may be worth the hassel.

According to OP, dharper does not currently have HD, but has purchased a HD-PVR. Therefore, he'll need to subscribe to HD programming and, as per ExTcMt, he's entitled to a free HD upgrade of his dish, which includes a SW44. This means he will end up with two SW44s - the one that came with his 9242 and the one he gets for free as part of the HD upgrade. I believe Nimiq, an authorized installer for BEV, uses a special form of separator that presumably is BEV approved and either included in an installation or would cost a few bucks extra. Using separators on the four outputs from the two LNBs needed to get HD, dharper can use both his SW44s and end up with 8 outputs in total, all with both SD and HD programming, for either no cost or the cost of the separators.

to get you 8 feeds with both sats you need 2 sw24's and 2 sw44's.
I broke down and bought the second sw24 online for 16.94 so i didn't have to take time off work for an installer to show up. Installed myself.

Sorry Try_279, thats what I think I will do. I was half asleep when I read your post and was thinking only one other receiver, other than the dual tuner could access the 82 sat. (my math doesn't work to good when I am tired)But if 2 others can, I can live with one receiver not having access to sat 82. Thanks.

Still, before you activate the HD PVR, call Express Vu, you WILL get all receivers Upgraded to pick up 91 & 82 for free when they install your HD PVR.

As soon as you activate, you are out of luck. You would have to pay for all work after that.

Other advantage is a 90 warranty on the installation and the 2 SW44's that get installed and believe me, lots fail........

the free HD upgrade does not include ANY equipment when you purchase that additional HD receiver. The equipment that comes with your purchased receiver is all you can work with, unless you purchase them seperately. That is why you get a new dish, LNB, & SW44 when you purchase, otherwise why would they include it if the installer will bring them. The upgrade promo for purchase only gives you installation free.

Also you do not qualify for 6 months free HD programming. This is included only when you rent.

You need an SW44-A inaddition to the SW-44. You don't need the existing switch anymore.

You connect the SW-44A inputs directly to the dish, and the SW-44 to the passthrough outputs on the SW-44A.

WE do hundreds of installations per day and trust me we install whatever is needed to upgrdae all receivers for free......

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. I have 2 2700's and a 3100 along with the 6100. The installer originally installed the 3 receivers with a 3x4 Aspen mulitswitch. When the installation for the 6100 was done, he took the free port on the 3x4 multiswitch and ran it into the SW21 along with the cable for 82 and then output that signal to the 6100. No SW44 was ever supplied or offered unless I wanted to pay $89.99 for it. This was a workaround using the switch that came in the bok (SW21).

Sorry bud but you are incorrect.

If a customer buys a 9242S at a retail outlet, (the "S" denotes System, which includes the Dish, SW44, etc) and the customer requests installation, then the Installer will Upgrade whatever receivers are already on premises and the 9242 all are done free of charge to the customer.

If that involves installing 2 x SW44's then that is what is installed, it is all free.

Charges will apply if an existing receiver is moved to another room, that would be a $50 charge.

Also bear in mind that when the Installer arrives, he has no idea if you got the Dish and SW44 or not, this information is never passed along, so theoretically, you just give him the 9242 and he installs everything else.....

Yes indeed this will work, however the cost of the SW44a is borne by the Customer.

If they are entitled to a free installation, let Express Vu foot the bill for the second SW44.

And of course the SW44a is not approved by Express Vu, so if it fails and a Technician rolls out, the Customer is stuck with a $75 charge and still has no TV until they buy a replacement SW44a. This is the risk the customer needs to be aware of.

I'm fully aware of the "S" in 9242, it is the same as if you were purchasing 9200 which includes all equipment you need.

2nd SW44 is not free, not according to ExpressVu help desk. When customer purchases a 9242, only the installation is free which includes connecting all existing receivers to that SW44 that came with the new HD system. ExpressVu will not give you a free SW44.

I'm going to get a clarification on this in next couple days with them.

If your upgrade was done within the last year and a half he did it wrong. You were fully entitled to an SW44, I guess he was just lazy. Should have cost you nothing extra. I will try to dig out the Date the FREE Upgrade Promo started.....

An SW44 is $150, so not sure where the $89.99 came from.

Kusat.com has them for $104.00 they are a reputable ExpressVu dealer and where I got all my stuff from. I bought a switch from them and it arrived the next day by Canada Post and there are never any PST charges since it comes from Quebec
