5.1 speakers not working in Windows 7. Test gives 5.1 sound but any programs

only have 2.1.? I was wondering if anyone had any idea why this would happen. I recently built a new computer and when I hooked up my 5.1 speakers, they don't produce 5.1 sound. When I use the test feature when configuring the speakers from the control panel, all 5.1 make the proper noise. However, when I use anything other than that test program, only the front speakers and the bass work. I am using an ASUS P5N-D motherboard with it's built in sound and Logitech X-530 speakers. Any help is appreciated.
