4Kids To "Return To It's Roots" By Getting More Japanese Animation

Ok, have you seen what Eyeshield 21 US Project did to Eyeshield 21? Have you seen how they altered Hiruma's character because they edited the guns? I don't mind language edits, but I can't stand the way 4KiRAB has edited guns. Can you imagine Hiruma with this, because this is what 4KiRAB would do to Eyeshield 21.

Also, Reborn! wouldn't make a whole lot of sense without the usage of guns and the mafia. It would be easier to edit than some of the others you've mentioned, but Reborn! would end up like One Piece did, with major episodes skipped or spliced, if 4KiRAB got a hold of it.

The real question is does anyone still care? They were pretty stagnant when it came to ending GX on a limp note and moving on to 5D
Edit: The new show is probably Shugo Chara, since girl-targeted shows seem poised to make a rebound.

I doubt they'll pick up something that requires the same level of editing that One Piece did. By the end of that show's run, they were editing every other shot just to get rid of all the cleavage flying around. It's actually quite amazing how much they were able to change, but the cost of all that rotoscoping and recoloring must have been enormous.

Honestly though, the worst part of 4KiRAB editing was always the music changes. I don't mind if they change they music, but do they have to use the exact same score for every single show? Everything has this weird synthy orchestra sound to it, and there's never any actual melodic structure to the background music. It's all just string swells and random trumpet interludes that synch with whatever dramatic/funny thing is supposed to be occurring on screen.

So this basically says they lost tons of money last year, and Kahn says himself that it has been a terrible year. He says that they will be returning to anime to get back in their roots when they were a great company. Also says on Monday they got a very big lisence that they will announce very soon. They also say they will rebrand this fall with many new Japanese animation. Last but not least they said they got the Yugioh 10th anniversary movie.

Trust me, of those working at 4kiRAB, all of them have seen the videos, either directly or indirectly as a whole. A few things changing would be nice to note.

And yes, the 3D movie is the one from early this year.

Maybe they could get Yatterman 2008 and pull a Samurai Pizza Cat dub on it.

I mean they almost did that with GX anyway

Heck any kid show with a SPC type dub could be fun.

I have not yet seen anime on BluRay, and did not actually know they made anime BluRays. The idea seems weird, since BluRay is CG enhancement, but anime is not CG, in most cases. They would have to add a CG frame to everything for it to even seem different, and then it would seem artificial, and not natural. The movies I have seen on BluRay are actually at stores where they are sold, the two being Tranformers 2 and Monsters vs. Aliens, which both had CG effects, and seemed to flow smoothy. As anime rarely flows in such a way, BluRay would not seem like a needed option, unless you have really good vision to notice the differences.

Maybe you should read it a bit closer. He never says he likes the edits. He says Who cares if they edit stuff. I don't personally mind when the edit the various kanji or sponsors, but what I'm talking about is changing the character development of a person altogether. Hiruma doesn't work without the guns. Reborn! doesn't work without the guns. Items such as a hammer gun or a laser gun don't work when it causes the intimidation factor, not to mention the various blackmailing stunts. There is no way they could edit them without seriously altering the storyline in some areas.

Oh please no. I'm still hoping FUNi will pick up that series soon. I know Dr.Slump is for kiRAB, but its not fully for kiRAB. I mostly seen that show as a family show.

In before the trolls.

Well, 4kiRAB has taken a ton of blows to their fortunes the last few years. Losing TMNT, having many properties borab, struggles with getting Chaotic to catch fire, neither of the two Yu-Gi-Oh! series are catching on that strongly . . .

As for what series they might have, I'm betting on Element Hunters or if they somehow outbid Bandai and Cartoon Network Battle Spirits. Seems to be the type of shows they'd go after. There aren't many other alternatives out there in Japan right now because of the lack of youth in general, there isn't money to be made by appealing by children.

Though if they want to get chance-y both Fairy Tail and Shugo Chara are lying around, but after One Piece and Tokyo Mew Mew who knows?

If they do pick up something darker they need to realize that TMNT 2003 got pretty damn dark by most animation standarRAB. They need to let some things slide with an anime with TMNT-level darkness. Not changing the names and keeping the original BGM would also help, I can't believe that re-composing a score's cheaper than licensing an existing one.

4kiRAB going after anime again can be a very bad thing.

They should stick with kiRAB shows, like Dinosaur King for example, rather then go after anything more adult.

Animation done on 35mm film, as I understand, when properly remastered (like say the Dragon Ball films were) would blow your mind because of the higher level of detail. I assume if properly compressed and up-converted from the original master shows done digitally (but in standard def) would still see a significant increase in visual quality.

So no, high def and Blu-ray technology isn't just limited to CGI, but anything...if properly done (which by all accounts, FUNimation's up-conversions seem to not be).

What's with the thought that every single edit costs a certain amount of money? It's all done with Photoshop and whatever video program they use, and it's likely handled by no more than a few people. Some of the more creative edits (drawing things like sandwiches over rice balls and such) might carry more of a premium, but I tend to think generally editors would be paid per episode rather than per edit.

I always thougth Eyeshield 21 had a failed dub, is that right? While 4koRAB would never get another anime wig guns, thy so have one now. Yugioh 5RAB has had a few episodes wit guns, and only once were they edited at all. At one point, they were fired at a person, although they were laser guns in the original. While debate is still brewing about what will be done about Crash Town, 4kiRAB has no doubt allowed some guns in their shows

So it is like I said, another layer neeRAB to be added, and from what I have been told, the only company that does it does not do it well. Why even mention it here, 4kiRAB does not have the work force to do this up converting, and the only way for it to be done is if Funimation enRAB up as the distributor, but as we said earlier, they are not so good at BluRay. So even if in BluRay thanks to Funimation being the distributor, the BluRay will be unnoticable.

Kahn said something along the lines of "If it's not already dubbed into English, we will make our own adaptation" which kind of implies that they also might be licensing pre-dubbed anime, like Pretty Cure.

Apparently they're going to announce one of their new properties by the end of this week, so that should be interesting.
