4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

If all 90 episodes of 5D's Road to Destiny don't make it on TV, they will make it online, no doubt. 5D's is the second most popular series on Toonzaki, so they'll all fnid their way on there eventually even if they aren't on TV in the fall due to Zexal. We have confirmation that the entirety of 5D's is being dubbed (if dubbing isn't finished already, they did say it would be ready for Q1 2011 after all) so we won't have another GX Season 4 situation on our hands whatever the case may be.

Actually no, you're mistaken. When 4Kids took over the broadcast contract from Kids' WB!, they actually inherited the two e/i shows that Kids WB! had been airing. One of those two was Magi-Nation, because Cookie Jar had signed a contract with CW for the show to air on CW, not Kids' WB!. Magi-Nation aired on CW4Kids from May 24, 2008- September 20, 2008. The other show was Will and DeWitt, which aired until April 4, 2009. The other shows that moved to CW4Kids when they bought out the contract from Kids' WB! were The Batman, Tom & Jerry Tales, The Spectacular Spider-Man (season 1), and Skunk Fu! Technically Eon Kid, Johnny Test, and World of Quest also aired on CW4Kids because 4Kids took over the broadcasting May 24, but 4Kids couldn't move any of their shows to CW until June 21, which is when they moved over TMNT, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and Chaotic to replace those three shows.

I thought that would be the case. I'd be quite surprised if they do manage to win the case not only because of amount of attention they're getting from these companies, but the time and money put into defending their case and trying to keep the license might be pretty hard too. I also wonder what would happen with Zexal if 4Kids somehow does win the case. I'm sure that they wouldn't have a great business relationship with TV Tokyo and NAS, but would they have to give Zexal to them anyway because they would still own the license to the franchise in this case scenario?

The ratings do look pretty good. Sonic X and DBZ Kai are still doing well and the repeats for DM are pretty good. Even 5D's was able to go over the 0.8 rating mark. Considering how well the DM repeats tend to do on the block, it does make me wonder how it would work without Yu-Gi-Oh! there.

Holy smokes! Where the heck did these high ratings for DBZ Kai and 5D's come from?! It would be kind of cool if these numbers stayed around these figures for the rest of the block's run (they wont), I'm seriously at awe at the increase of viewership for 5D's, that was totally unexpected seeing as how it's been getting 0.7's and even lower on a weekly basis.

Glad to see them dominating the ratings again. I thought the overall spread would look better, but still solid nonetheless. I do agree that they may do better just going back to double 5d's premieres.

The ratings for this past week were a little better than the previous week but still aren't as stellar as they have been for the past couple of months, hopefully today's broadcast will help them out with a strong morning of ratings. I wonder why the block hasn't had much in the way of ratings over the past couple of weeks? I can't help but to be curious as to why all of a sudden certain shows went from being really strong with the numbers to lowering on a whim, I hope this is a trend that doesn't continue very long since 4Kids needs all the support it can get right now.

Those are some pretty solid ratings for some of the shows here. As usual, Sonic X dominates in the ratings. I'm sure that part of it is just new kids getting into the show, but I'm still amazed at how many of them are tuning into it. It's a fairly enjoyable show, but I don't think it's the best one of the block either. Still, it gives Toonzai some nice ratings most every week. The first airing for Yu-Gi-Oh! did pretty well as did the new DBZ Kai episodes. It's a shame that the second airing of Yu-Gi-Oh! and 5D's didn't do that well. Considering that I have all of season two on DVD, I wouldn't mind having double episodes of 5D's returning to the block, but at the same time, I don't want them to speed through the rest of the series, especially after seeing how great the anniversary movie was yesterday.

New episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's continue throughout June, and will most likely continue until all of the season's episodes premiere (ie: through 252). Unfortunately, second season episodes of Magi-Nation will not be airing as the series starts from the beginning after episode 126.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention the anniversary movie. The fact that Yu-Gi-Oh! is pretty much their only series with successful merchandise left is probably another factor as to why they air the classic series.

While Pokemon, like Yu-Gi-Oh!, isn't at a fad status anymore, the recent games, Black and White broke records even before their release. They had over one million pre-orders back in August, making them the fastest selling DS games in history and 2.63 million copies were sold in the opening weekend of their release. Still, I see your original point. From what I understand, the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is still one of the top three most sold TCG in the USA, though I forget which spot it has, so I wouldn't say that it's running out of steam either.

Even though I don't really like Bakugan that much, I wonder what would have happened with 4Kids if they were able to get it or at least air it like they do with DBZ Kai. The show was fairly popular in its first season or two, in the U.S. and Canada more than in Japan from what I understand, and it would have worked for them. I'm not sure if the merchandise for the series and the toys still sell that well since whenever I go to Toys R Us and Walgreens, there's tons of Bakugan stuff hanging on the selves and less Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! toys. Though, that might be just with my area and not a valid way to determine if the toys still are profitable. Anyway, it might have helped them out financially to be connected with the Bakugan franchise, but I doubt that they'll be able to air it.

Eragon is terrible, no offense, and its most popular years are well behind it because Christopher Paolini, in addition to cribbing from Star Wars for his plots, can't make a deadline. It's not what kids are looking for in literature nowadays and a TV series would bomb just like the movie did.

And why would they need permission from FOX to make their own series? I don't understand that bit at all.

I'm just glad Toonzai, has been managing to break even and more then that week after week. Sonic X with 1.3, 1.4, and 1.7, is another fantastic job once again, 4kids really should fund another season of this show, when they have the money. Yu-Gi-Oh pulling in 1.3 is nice, and Kai's 1.1's. I feel bad for Yu-Gi-Oh and 5'DS they're running out of steam. But, at least sandwiching one between Sonic X, generated a 1.3.

It's about time for a new thread. Name Suggestions I have.

The last episode to air on This TV didn't seem like a series finale, or even a season finale. Maybe the remainder (if there is one) will air on The CW4Kids.

Nice. The 4Kids guy who sends the schedules to rabroad seems to be inattentive when changes are made to the initial schedule that was sent out.

He's good at getting v1 out. But it's like once it's checked off his to-do list, it's on to the next thing. I usually wind up e-mailing him once I see a Spidey post and THEN he sends the revision.

That's good to hear. I wonder if they would be able to just air the rest of the series, depending on how far they have gone with dubbing in the series and if any court rulings prevent them form working on 5D's. Considering the legal issues 4Kids is dealing with, I'll be quite worried when they have 5D's go into reruns.

From what I have heard, Yugioh is a large base of their operations, bringing in 35% of their revenue (not profits). Losing it would be a huge loss, but in the long run, it would be best for it to happen sooner than later.

~ ftw

Didn't you previously post a YouTube video with Tom Wayland talking about how he was a lead in the show? And I can't give you an exact link, but I've heard Bella Hudson posted on a forum talking about how she's a lead in the show.
