4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

Any chance that magination will help get higher ratings? or is the time slot simply doomed to the cubix numbers we see every week. I'll admit, it is crazy hard to wake up by 7 during a weekday let alone during the weekend. So i'm curious to see how this plays out. Because i think when magi-nation happens it will show that either cubix is dragging down the block (if magi-nation does better than cubix) or that the time slot is death (if magi-nations numbers are the same as cubix)

Also, wasn't this show on kidswb at one point? or am i confused?
 
This sounds less like an informed suggestion and more of a rant against a franchise that you aren't into. Classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters isn't just there for ratings, it also helps advertise new legacy products for the TCG featuring the original characters, as well as hype for the new movie. In case you haven't noticed 4kids is a merchandising company, and Yu-Gi-Oh! is about the only series with any merchandising power left (Well Sonic merchandise isn't in their court).

Do you really think the world's best-selling TCG is running out of steam because it isn't at mega fad status anymore? I'm sure the Pokemon games aren't best-sellers anymore either...

Bakugan was the next big thing and 4kids doesn't have it, for now how about they keep a show that advertises something important and is actually entertaining at the same time. I mean what else would they air, a fourth Sonic X to advertise all the Sonic games that they're involved with. Oh, wait...
 
The last time Magi-Nation aired on The CW4Kids, on September 20, 2008 at 7:30 AM, it got a 0.7/4 rating. So yes, Magi-Nation will most likely get higher ratings then Cubix is getting. Yes, Magi-Nation did air on Kids WB.
 
Well, I mean, it's 7:00. Why would kids get up at 7:00 to watch cartoons when they can watch them all day on cable? You couldn't pry me out of bed at 7:00 on a Saturday morning with a jackhammer.

The big disappointment for me is that the original Yu-Gi-Oh! at 11:00 did no better than 5D's does there. If that continues for a few more weeks they should just go back to double 5D's premieres, because obviously the only reason to put a second original Yu-Gi-Oh! on the block was to boost ratings. If it's not doing that, no reason to keep it that way.

Still, a 1.0 average for the block overall is fine and above the mark, and that 1.7 for Sonic X is nothing to complain about.
 
Actually I know ABC Kids has got at least one 1.0 in the last few months or so, but it's much easier for them to attain, since they only have six shows compared to Toonzai's ten. The 7 AM hour always brings down the average for Toonzai...without it, this week they would've had a 1.2 average.
 
Somewhat unrelated, but now that Fairy Tail has more or less been confirmed as to being dubbed by someone on the US, I wonder how long it'll be before we hear about a Toonzai broadcast? It'd be downright stupid not to air the series on TV, and Toonzai's the only block that'd really air it given it doesn't have a real name for itself here yet(DBZ Kai and Shippuuden can air on other networks because their DBZ and Naruto).

The dub will be out before winter since that's when it's being released in the UK, so maybe it could go along side Zexal as the new fall shows on the block.
 
Anime licensing will slow the bleeding, maybe even stop it, but it won't keep the company from being any more but a shadow of its former self. It needs original programming, a TMNT 2003, to get it truly healthy again. Whether the original programming is produced traditionally or is an IGPX-style "original anime" doesn't matter. It must be made.
 
Good question. Unfortunately I don't know the answer. I tried looking up some previous results and what's unusual is that when they reported their Q3 results they said they had approximately $4.0 million in cash and $10.9 million in investment securities. So it event though reported a $7.4 million loss this quarter, it appears they only lost $3.5 million or so.

Yeah, sorry, I basically answered your question with another question. :sweat:

EDIT: Looking at the article, it's as of December 31st, 2010. So yes, that $1 million has not been subtracted yet from that total.

Nice to see you did decide to go with my title.

I'm glad to see that 4 Kids has been showing some improvement this quarter. I wonder if they'll speed up the 5d's subs after they finish Season 1? I'm fine with the current pace, but a speed up would be cool...
 
Thanks for the info guys, yeah thats what I thought i remembered. I actually made an effort to get up to watch that show too. So I hope it does just as well this time.
 
I see what you mean. Most kids are used to "in yo face humor/action". The previous yu series we're easier to follow, due to their lighter content. I too skipped most of 5D's. Knew I had to invest alot of time into the series to really appreciate it. Its like watchin Avatar. You can't just skip to ep 47 and really grasp the epicness of said series.

Haha...back in our day, I'd switch between foxkids,kidswb,foxfamily,cbs,abc1satmorning, etc. I had absolutely no brand loyalty back then. The only block I really respected was toonami.
 
Yeah, there was a press-release earlier last summer where they announced that 90 episodes of 5D's would be able to air outside of Asia in the first quarter of 2011, which would be last fall I believe. I remember some debate on another forum if that meant that 5D's was only going to have about 154 episodes and up until the information for Zexal came up, I wasn't convinced that was the case. You're welcome. I also hope that this means 4Kids won't just stop 5D's as I'm still hoping that they'll finish GX one of these days. Viz's treatment of their shows annoys me too and while the lack of DVDs for shows like 5D's is a bother for me as well, at least they usually do finish their series, as you mentioned, and have provided most of the episodes on their website for quite a while.
 
A simulcast would be kind of cool. I could see them trying for that when the series officially premiers. I'm not sure they could show the preview that will air along with the re-release of the anniversary movie.



Well, the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! ratings tend to be around 1.0 and are consistently better than what 5D's gets, although there could be factors like the different times they air and what else is playing when 5D's is one that contribute to that. I wouldn't mind them taking a risk like that with pulling it off the lineup for something new, but the problem is that they don't really have anything ready to takes its place at the moment and until they get something off the ground, possibly something like that Tai-Chi Chasers show, I don't think that they'll get rid of it. As far as I know, the 5D's merchandise seems to be doing well, or at least the card sales are. The only market that the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! could fit into would be all of those re-releases of the original cast's cards and that Marik Structure deck.

While 4Kids doesn't have a great financial position right now, I certainly wouldn't say that they have no money. Otherwise they would have filed for bankruptcy already and be unable to continue dubbing 5D's. I think it's more of a matter of being unable to find toyetic shows that could work for them more than not taking risks.
