4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

You all seem to be forgetting that the "anime only" thing is their current agenda. Their trying to use their block to bring in a younger generation of anime fans, like what Toonami once did, and I gotta give them props for caring enough to try.

The only REAL problem with what their doing is that they don't have enough variety in their anime. That is to say, it's mostly toyetic crap.This would normally not be an issue, expect that part what 4 Kids claimed Toonzai to bring was "edgier"(in other action)titles into the mix. What they should be trying to do, is make on their promise to bring "edgier" anime titles to the block. Kids want action shows on an action block. It's not that hard of an equation, and yet Kahn couldn't figure it out after all this time and left the company.

Well, Toonzaki seems to be proof that they have a slightly better understanding of that. Here's to hoping ti new CEO will push to get more action titles on the block.
 
Wow, I'm very astounded, Cubix does the usual. Sonic does the 1.1-1.4 area usually. The original Yu-Gi-Oh! gets a 1.3. Kai beats everything on the block with a 1.3 and 1.4. The 5D's get 1.0 and 1.2 this was a fantastic week for Toonzai, certainly.
 
It is a darn shame, because Zexal just aired the first episode earlier this morning/yesterday (how you look at it) and it needs a dub. Its audience is far more obvious to be the 6-11 that Sat AM aims for.

I think that Kids' WB started at 6AM during its early years. I might be mixing it up with their weekday morning block though. Even so, I agree with the idea that kids probably wouldn't want to get up that early for cartoons, except for maybe some of the shows on Nick, and considering the ratings for the first hour of the block, I don't think that it would do that well with ratings.

Agreed. Though I do have to hand it to Toonzai/4Kids, these ratings have been the highest I've seen from them in a long, long time. Saturday morning over on CN has been slipping as of late though, but Nick & Disney seem to be doing well even though their scheduling leaves something to be desired.
 
Their doing a bit better than in recent years, but they still need more of push, Even so, broadcasting is their bread and butter next to merchandising, so I doubt 4 Kids would ever stop doing that,

I agree with the motif of them breaking away from "toyetic" shows. They claimed that their goal with Toonzai, in addition to bring in a new generation of anime fans, was to get somewhat "edgier" titles on the block. Since then, DBZ Kai has pretty mych been the only thing that qualifies under that statement. Breaking into a somewhat different medium of titles could help them. There are a few action titles sitting around that fit in pretty well on the Toonzai block if 4 Kids picked them up. I fear that if they don't do it, then none of the other anime licensing companies will.

The other R1 anime licensors seem to be more interested in catering to the current wave of fans, rather than bringing in a new generation these days.
 
Looks like they had a really great week! Though I iimagine ratings will be in the 0.8 range or so for a while until 4 Kids starts new premieres again in February(I assume that's when they'll start up again). Hopefully Tai Chi Chasers will be ready by then too.
 
That actually surprises me. Considering that the show never really did that well in terms of the ratings and the game, after some time of being fairly successful, died off, I thought that 4Kids wouldn't really do much of anything with the series after they took it off the CW4Kids block. It is a nice way for more people who did like the show and didn't see it on 4Kids' website to watch again.
 
I think they did lose the broadcast rights to Magi-Nation and they just re-acquired them. Anyway, If Magi-Nation continues to air on Cookie Jar Toons on This TV after it starts airing on The CW4Kids: Toonzai that means it will air 7 days a week.
 
Well 4 Kids can rejoice a bit since a new Yu-Gi-Oh anime's been confirmed. I'm hoping they'll try to simulcast this one on Toonzaki. It could help to bring more viewers to the site.
 
For some reason, I would have thought that Yu-Gi-Oh! brought a bit more revenue than that to the company, but its still pretty significant to make their choice to fight for the license even more understandable. Would the fact that their debt isn't more than their assets mean that it's possible that they'll keep the license? They could try to pay off their debt, although I'm not sure how that would affect them financially considering they owe over half of what they have to various companies. I don't really know how likely it is that they would win in court, especially since these are serious claims against them from TV Tokyo and NAS, but I guess that is a possibility. I'm glad that LK could set up another Card Games for Charity to help out Japan. Those signed Yu-Gi-Oh! cards look pretty awesome too.



That would make sense, especially since they could possibly avoid losing the Yu-Gi-Oh! license and try to restore their relationship with the Japanese companies involved, even though I have heard that doing something like isn't too likely to happen. It doesn't look likely that they will keep the Yu-Gi-Oh! license, which is a shame considering that pretty much is the main property for the company and quite a few people would lose their jobs. Though, maybe they'll somehow be able to prove that they're innocent and keep the license, despite being pretty unlikely at this point.



I'm sure that Zexal will get a dub despite the legal situation over the Yu-Gi-Oh! license. TV Tokyo and NAS would want to promote the newest cards with the most recent series in the U.S. as well as in Japan. It isn't as popular as it was back when it first premiered, but Yu-Gi-Oh! is still a pretty successful property with its various anime titles and the merchandise, especially the cards. I wouldn't be surprised if they are considering their choices for how to get a dub for Zexal if/when 4Kids loses the license. I don't think 4Kids would have rights to Zexal since we most likely would have heard something about that by now. Zexal is most likely not under 4Kids' control like the other series, so I think that they would be able to look around and see what other company they could do business with. They probably couldn't license it until 4Kids no longer holds the license though, but I'm pretty certain that Zexal will still have a dub.
 
I would agree if classic Yu-Gi-Oh was pulling in ratings that were on the same level as Sonic X, but it's not, and I think since it's not tearing up the ratings that 4Kids has some obvious room for improvement that they should take the risk and try to improve the schedule with something new, because as always America is thirsty for the next big thing to hit stateside. The Yu-Gi-Oh well is drying up and sales for 5D's merch is not nearly what it used to be and there is all but no market for classic Yu-Gi-Oh anymore so 4Kids really needs to pump some life into the toy/novelty market with a show that could potentially become a new success and move forward instead of staying frozen in time. Afterall, you don't become a success in this world without taking some risks, but instead, 4Kids chooses not to take any risks and a part of that is the reason as to why they have no money and their financial reports are in the toilet.

I didn't know they had 90 episodes after the Dark Singer arc, I was thinking they only had the next 52. I guess if they bothered to grab 90 they'll grab whatever's left.

Well, that's good then, thanks for letting me know what's up. At least 4kids isn't going to pull yet another Viz with this one. Even though they haven't been able to push out DVD releases, at least they complete their dubs for TV broadcast and stuff, unlike certain Viz releases that continue to grate on me.
 
Actually Ms. Lucario, we didn't find out about a 5Ds dub until about 6 episodes in. People were still chanting for no 4kids dub back in (let me check the various forums) ... since February. But alas ...

4kids announced by the end of March, so yeah. No possibilities there. I am still crossing my left hand fingers for Viz. I just hope it won't be too long. In May, the new starter deck will hit America. By then, something has to be out.

Grand Total: 606 or 607 episodes and 17 movies

So PokeMon would actually have the most dubbed episodes, but they're divided by 2 companies. Yu-Gi-Oh! is third on the list, though they would have more had the final season of GX ever been dubbed or the original series ever been brought over.
 
Actually, Toonami wasn't big with the anime yet..Not until 1998. When, they started off the year with Robotech, Voltron, Sailor Moon and later that year, Toonami got Dragonball Z. But, enough with Toonami right now, since we're talking about Toonzai. It's not in the toy department, it's in their advertisement department, they're in charge of that. I know, that 4KidsTV is on their last nerve, since they're just doing cards, toys and they're not going anywhere. Kahn wanted to censor anything that he had pleased. We've all know what happened to the One Piece thing. Well..
I think that Toonzai in the future might change their ways or 4KidsTV might follow his direction on his way to run this network, but we can only see this for certain. Who knows, if they're going to get a mix of anime and cartoons or just anime now (like they're airing now) or nothing will change. The new CEO better do something.... And, this weekday block for Toonzai is just stupid. I don't know, where people got these answers that their precious wasn't going to happen. I went with it and I just said,"Just wait until January 3rd". People they got pissed off. I just laughed hysterically.
 
To be fair to 4 Kids, beyond Cardfight Van, the only series that are currently unlicensed/announced(the rights to the new Yu-Gi-Oh series are going to them anyway so it doesn't count). that I could see them picking up are all action series, and considering how their last action series turned out(I don't think the name needs to be said), they'd probably prefer to let other companies pick them up and then have them air on Toonzai.
 
I personally don't think that any of the themes in 5D's are so mature that a kid would really be turned off by them. It still follows a very basic save the world plot. True the current arc in the Japanese version is a bit harder to follow, but I still don;t think it would be anything that would really turn off a kid.

I'm gonna agree with Light Lucario in that it's probably just the fact that the show plays at the very end of the block, and kids are likely watching something else by that point. I know I didn't watch Kids WB from start to finish when I was that age.
