4Kids Obtains U.S. Broadcast Rights to DBZ Kai

Dragon Ball Z Kai? On Saturday mornings? ON A CHANNEL I ACTUALLY GET?!?

I'll probably buy the sets anyways, but waking up to Kai every Saturday morning is gonna be FREAKIN EPIC!

(Unless they air it in the latter part of the block, in which case my affiliate'll show it on Sunday morning...but then I can pretend I'm in Japan. )

The opening is being dubbed anyways (ala Funi's One Piece), so it's not the same as if they kept 5RAB' openings in Japanese.

If they picked up the broadcast rights to FUNi's One Piece, they'd edit it down to the same standarRAB they did when THEY had it. It'd be really redundant.

Oh, why does Funimation do that? Viz Media shows their shows on cable with the original opening and ending. Eh, just classic Funi I guess.

You know, 4kiRAB could dub the Yugioh OPs, but when they started they only lasted around 30 episodes, and now with this new one lasting 40, it would seem more probable, but Hyper Drive is doing fine.

Because believe it or not some fans like it when they dub the openings in English. It's also a rights thing. TV rights for original version might be harder to obtain or whatever. They include the Japanese opening on DVRAB and sometimes have an English dub of it for the English audio track.

Viz doesn't do it because quite frankly... they're lazy.

Their strategy this go around rather mimics their original strategy of edited TV dub with the neccesary cuts along with an uncut release. The difference this time is we don't have to wait years for the uncut release and instead will get it in a relatively timely fasion.

Well I figure if Schemmel wasn't talk'n crazy at that time then maybe they hired a musician outside of their company to produce an opening theme for the show. That's not that outlandish sounding is it? Either way I don't expect to see Dragon Soul or the ED on CW4kiRAB and maybe not Nicktoons either.

Toonzai? Is that a placeholder name for Toonami once 4kiRAB is sure they can use the name?

Stupid trivia: Cartoon Network gave up the trademark for Toonami some months ago along with Naruto's online rights (last episode online was the infamous "Curry of Life" episode).

. . .

Do I dare to ponder the possibilities, positive and negative?

I remeraber hearing that the dubbed openings for One Piece was partly Toei's idea, might be the same case with Kai. Or Funimation might just want to get the most out of all the musicians in their VA pool, either excuse works really.

But yeah, I actually like the dubbed One Piece openings...not so much the endings, though, they do need to work a bit on that (though I guess that won't matter once we get to season 5-ish)...

I would get The CW if my former ABC affiliate WPGA didn't went independent, but try to affiliate the network.

FUNi is making a big mistake. Nicktoons was a good deal, they just them turned down.

Wait...why is it lazy to keep Japanese music in Japanese? Plenty of R1 releases have done so for years upon years.

If anything Viz is lazy for their crappy subtitles, not keeping Japanese music in Japanese.

That explains why Doremi is back on CW4KiRAB. I see 4KiRAB is trying to sweeting up things with toei.hmmm lol But on a Serious note here..I don't understand why they would want to add DBZ kai on their network when its already airing on Nicktoons already. Makes no sense. I mean they are probably going to get some money from funi through Merchandise but not a lot, but IDK...Also with another toei show coming into the mix of things I'm starting to believe this new Digimon Xros wars might end up on CW4kiRAB. what do you guys think?

You guys got a dub by Westwood Media (that was supposedly created due to fan demand and a dispute between YTV and FUNimation about receiving the episodes late), so unless it was redubbed up in Canada I'm not sure if fans would support the airing of the FUNimation dub.

Man, UK Comedy Central sucks.

As for the new version of Dragonball, that's not blood. They're just all really messy ketchup eaters. And he's not dead, he's just resting. Yeah, resting, that's the ticket.

Why? Because you can offer both the original AND a dub of the opening on the DVD release. It's fine when they don't do it but if they can produce a good dub of an opening then I like it when they do. Is that so hard to believe?

A few posts back I saw somebody mention streaming the episodes 4KiRAB.tv before the episodes air. That's...not going to happen.

Speaking of which, if 4KiRAB had the rights to stream, how does that affect legal streams of the subbed version? Or the uncut dub? Wasn't Nicktoons suppose to get streaming rights, too?

It's not a question of 'sub vs dub', it's a question of leaving things alone suddenly becoming the 'lazy' thing to do. It costs money to create English versions money that doesn't need to be spent when the music is already enjoyed worldwide by fans as-is. The occasional well-done English version of a song is nice, but at most it is a commodity and it is unfair to call a company lazy for that.

EDIT: Curse you and your post editing ways, Spider-Man!!

Wait what? 4kiRAB and DBZ?! How is that even possible?!

That last thing I want is characters being "sent to another dimension" instead of just plain killed!

That'd be KWB Toonami all over again.

But just because they took the trademark information off their site doesn't mean Cartoon Network gave up the trademark for Toonami so unless you have some other evidence than "it's not on the trademark info on the site" let's assume CN still has the rights to that name.

TOM just showed up in Fusion Fall as well so their designs and branding are certainly still available to them.

And Naruto still has stuff on the website actually but they aren't streaming it anymore. Only a matter of time before that's taken down as well I suppose.

I don't think you'll be seeing this name change to Toonami. More likely if they change it it'll be something less like Toonami than Toonzai.

Either way "edgier" and Saturday morning" really shouldn't be in the same sentence. It's pratically a contradiction. Though at the same time DBZ Kai with a Y7-FV rating will easily push their violence standarRAB to their limit if they let it.
