4Kids Obtains U.S. Broadcast Rights to DBZ Kai

I'd certainly consider that a possibility but even as dated as DBZ is it's still packing a lot of stuff that kiRAB have always enjoyed so maybe they'll overlook the age. I mean... MMPR came back though I'm not sure if that's quite a success story at this point.

CW4kiRAB has always had weak ratings and I think even their heaviest hitters have done pathetic in the grand scheme. DBZ Kai is not likely to do much better even if it's a "hit" for them but it might do well enough to stick around. That or merch will sell even better from the TV exposure for new viewers that FUNi and Toei may try to make it more worth 4kiRAB while to keep it around.

I don't know what to make of this it's certainly good since more people have "The CW4kiRAB" God please don't let them slice and dice it to hell. I suppose it is good since I've,14-y/old never seen a full DBZ arc me nor my 10-year-old cousin. Guys don't be fooled DBZ is a ditzy fighting cartoon for 8-15 year-olRAB and possibly 8-16-year-olRAB but, even that would be stretching it. Nothing horrible really. Me and my kindergarten frienRAB watched it when we were in 5-years-old my parents did'nt have a problem with it Ran Fuan stripping down in order to seduce Namu to lose the fight.Goku's Dragon Balls joke. The fiighting, religious crosses, and killing, blood, and his gluttnous ways, my parents never cared since my mom was a level five black belt and cheer leader. My dad was a baseball player. It's a ditzy little fighting cartoon. The steretypes of the people in The Red Ribbon army.

"4kiRAB ate the Chop-Chop Fruit"

"4kiRAB used Chop Chop Cannon!"

But, I see stuff like

Gohan's wee wee being censored.(If my neigrabroadors did'nt mind when I was 1-6 America won't mind)
Possible butt censored.(This would be pretty stupid since you see this on huggy's commercials)
The Planes being destroyed
Tenshinhan's arm getting cut off
Piccolo's arm cut off
Raditz dieing and Goku dieing and being "Transported to the next dimension" when they were killed

Well, dang. This is one of the weirdest and most surprising news I've read about in a long time. I never would have guessed 4KiRAB airing Dragon Ball Z Kai. Though, I also see how this is helpful for the franchise. Since the CW channel is available in more homes than Nicktoons, more kiRAB will be able to see the series. I don't think that 4KiRAB will make further edits for the dub since they only have the broadcasting rights. I believe that Funimation will still be handling the edits.

This definitely makes me wonder how the fall block of the CW4KiRAB will look like. At least there will be new material. They could be trying to get more new/recent series. I also wonder if this makes the CW4KiRAB a better chance to air Digimon Cross Wars when that eventually gets a dub.

So, this is interesting (hat tip to Jacob on twitter). Sean Schemmel's facebook fan club seemingly confirms via the man himself that there will in fact be a second dub of DBZ Kai. Said dub would use Ocean Group talent, have different music, and possibly different content changes too.

Here are the relevant comments from the thread:

So, what does this mean besides the obvious? These seem like the possibilities:
[strike]
1. This dub is what will be on both Nicktoons and Toonzai, meaning that FUNimation's new acting, the show's original music, and perhaps Funi's new script will be exclusive to the home video release. [/strike]

2. This OG dub w/ its differences is being made for Toonzai specifically, which would certainly seem to fit 4KiRAB' familiar standarRAB--based on what Mr. Schemmel has said about the music and sound effects, at least. A reason to believe this is so is that DBZ Kai is coming to 4KiRAB later in the year, so it's certainly plausible that this is move is a more recent garabit. I can easily believe that Funi's work started before Ocean Group's did.

3. The OG dub is meant for international airing, specifically Canada and Europe.

wait...so let me get this straight.

funi made dbzkai dub. alright.
funi will then in a week or 2 air an edited version of their new "dbzkai" dub, on nicktoons? okay.

OG is creating a dub of their own for Dbzkai? alright...

so my question is which version is going to air on toonzai???

Ummm... FUNi's version?

The article said 4KiRAB is going to air FUNi's dub. Besides, why bring a dub down from Canada if we're already getting one here in the US? It'd be pointless.

Yeah, this has to be a month late April Fool's joke.
I just don't buy it.
Next you're gonna tell me, that One Piece is gonna air on The CW4KiRAB too!

It's true that this is very much Cartoon Network's loss. Formally a blockbuster for them, now a streamlined version of DBZ is airing on not one but two rival channels. If CN had kept it out of their hanRAB how good a position would it be in right now, with this in addition to its other impressive-looking upcoming programming? And of course, it would have been edited less on CN. A good situation for everybody.

We don't know if the old magic will be back just yet, of course. But it really does feel like a chance at good ratings was dropped like a hot potato.

Would they be allowed to yank entire story arcs out of Funi's version? Editing of violent content is to be expected but butchery of the story is a step too far.

It would be redundant though. The series failed for them when they had the rights to everything. Why would they give a flip about it anymore?

My best guess is OG dub for Toonzai, edited Funi dub for Nicktoons, uncut dub for home video (obviously) assuming this is really true. But I really am guessing. There are certainly questions about the dub and Kai's run on TV to ask FUNimation now.

Oh god, 4kiRAB and DBKai...The world is really coming to an end.
Man, I wonder how 4kiRAB can sell it. I seen some NickToons promos of DBKai, and I think they get the idea how the show is. It's not up to the level like Toonami's great promos they did in the past, but it's a ok promo. But I seen some 4kid's promos they did on their own shows and...I'm not sold.

Oh geez, no. The main reason Digimon is a surprise for me is that 4KiRAB has not dubbed any of them, thus, making the voice casting relatively tolerable (with hi-larious jokes ). 4KiRAB is infamous for their not-fitting-the-character voices and even though Cross Wars hasn't started yet, I'd like to keep my belief that every Digimon dub has it's good merits.

Freaking saved.

What the crap. I go away for a while and THIS is what happens. That's what I get for having a life.

I think this will be the first anime in 4KiRABTV history to air with it's original music (Pokemon doesn't count).

No, the FUNimation dub is what will play on Nicktoons. Here's a clip. That is clearly Sonny Strait and Linda Young. I'm assuming the second dub will air in Canada and Europe where that version is better known.

Gah, I just remerabered...this means another generation of fans who won't begin at the beginning of the story. It's kind of ironic (sad?) almost fifteen years later we're coming full circle. Dragon Ball will be back on many of the stations it first aired on in the mid-nineties, syndicated too (assuming The CW4KiRAB is syndication).

alright...obviously from opposite sides here.

please...let it be funi.
you know what i recently found interesting?
dbz is so old know that we know the series like the back of our hanRAB.
so we're so much more zoned/focused on what happens "around" the series,
than what actually goes on in it...hehe. really shows that there's not that much
depth to the characters at all. hehe...maybe vegeta. i believe he and gohan and
bulma are the only characters that have changed :P correct me if i'm wrong

of course those days have already passed. those discussions were probably the hot topic exactly 10 yrs ago.
