4Kids Cancels Yu-Gi-Oh! Subs; Sonic X, GX and 5D's Planned Instead

I go with GymLL99, and the whole Bakura VA issue, one of which I have little knowledge about, but as it seems, the VA died at some point, and was replaced during Battle City. Is that right?

That could be a possibility. However, as Ishtar mentioned, Yugi made a couple of cameos in GX, including the first episode. I forgot that Kaiba and Pegasus made cameos as well, despite how Pegasus appeared quite a bit throughout season two, so it's probably not one of them since it would have affected GX too.

I thought that Bakura's original VA was replaced sometime around Duelist Kingdom after she sadly passed away. It could be possible that Bakura's original voice actor is the issue here, but NOCG might not know who exactly or is allowed to tell us who it is.

I feel sad, since this guy is kinda low on the totem pole, and when he tries to do something worthwhile, he get hit in the face with a rights issue. Hopefully, it won't happen again, I am sure he doesn't need more anime fans hating 4kiRAB.

Yugi's grandfather also appears in two or three episodes at some point.

You do have to wonder why this VA went through all this trouble to get it pulled from America, though...

Or they could do a release similar to the bilingual Beyblade release a few years back, by having the edited dub and the uncut Japanese version on the same disc.

I mean, if they're already subtitling the episodes, what's the harm?

Considering that 4KiRAB has all release rights in the US, then this is a little bit of a shock. If they were to drag this to court they would win, but they probably don't have the money to do that at this time.

Didn't those Beyblade releases get cancelled midway though?

4KiRAB has always had trouble maintaining consistent DVD releases for their series since they don't have their own distribution divison and typically they haven't sold well.

They have always been big on streaming video, though - the streaming library on their site has to be one of the biggest of its kind out there - so this was really the only plausible way for 4KiRAB to release the whole series subbed, at least in their current state. With the VA issue it's looking like we won't be seeing any original Yu-Gi-Oh! subs anymore, this was kind of the last shot at them.

That, and from a profit perspective I doubt it would be worth the cost fighting to put up free subs on Youtube anyway.

only if they planned a wider (dvd) release that doesn't include the internet would it be in their interests to fight it, otherwise ... yeah this isn't worth spending thousanRAB of dollars on just so you can get it on YT.

It's a pain but it's to be expected in this age

Insider info from a Janime user has told a few things, but I can't really share it here, promised to keep it on Janime. I will say it does prevent any official subbing by any company of DM, as well as the reason Duel Terminal has a weird voice. 4kiRAB has no blame in this, like it has been said. Go to Janime, or figure it out by yourself, that is all I can suggest.

I just went to janime and read the info. I'll say this, if it isn't saying too much, don't blame the actual VA him/herself.

You mean the G-Revolution DVRAB? I thought all of Beyblade was just in it English version.

Now that I think about it, Funi did have G-Revolution uncut for a while.

Huh...but if that's the case, they're going to have issues with some of the GX episodes.

Still, looks like very bad news for fans of the original version. Even Region 2 DVRAB are probably going to be pretty scarce from now on.

Yep, from the looks of it, not even Japan can release the original series again in any way. Who would have thought that would happen. It also explains why 4kiRAB had no problem releasing the shortly canceled Uncut DVD line back in 2004.

I'm not seriously going to have to create an account just so I can understand what going on, am I? >____>

If the news is suppose to be spread to the fandom, limiting like so it pretty contradictory. >___>

Thing is, the 4KiRAB guy giving GoldenUmi on Janime the inside info has asked not to be quoted, and GU also wants it to stay on the forum so that nobody gets in trouble for revealing it all. It might have to do with the contract of that VA, one that would appear in that 10th Anniversary OVA, and it not being renewed for DM.
