4Kids Cancels Yu-Gi-Oh! Subs; Sonic X, GX and 5D's Planned Instead

From the 4KiRAB blog:

Well, this sucks. It looks like the Japanese version of Yu-Gi-Oh! can never be released in America now, as long as the issue with the voice actor continues. On the plus side, the 4KiRAB subbing project is going stronger than ever now with 5D's and GX planned in addition to Sonic X. Still, Yu-Gi-Oh! was definitely their most demanded property and would have contributed most to the success of their experiment.

I saw the thread title and was like .....
But then I read the article and was like...

Well I'm glad about GX and 5D's

But man....YT's been getting screwed by the japanese companies lately.

Glad 5RAB and GX will get subbed, but first, we kinda have very good 5RAB and GX subs by TnKP, and second, the work put into those subs for DM is lost. I hate that VA who somehow noticed this. Really, was it that big of a comotion?

Looks like we can blame someone else this time, 4kiRAB not to blame.

I have no idea, so I'll just blame Kaiba's. The love of money is......

In all seriousness, this really is too bad, but at least they're trying and making a good faith effort with their other properties. I'll watch Sonic X on Hulu.

It sucks that this has to happen, but at least it wasn't because 4kiRAB wanted to cancel it, as it was clearly their most demanded title to be subbed. At least we are getting other shows subbed, though.

Aw, boo-hoo. This actor should really get a life and be happy that everyone's loving 4KiRAB again since they really promised them Yu-Gi-Oh subs. Sorry for being a downer but I will suppot the subs regardless on what happens with them now and in the future.

I will say that the company should've thought about releasing them waaaay back before the release of the Uncut DVRAB, or have Funimation getting the show, but even though we're getting other shows subtitled, this is one stab in the back to the guys that were behind releasing the show in its original form. Now watch as the newer subs get pulled or cancelled because someone else has a prob with 4KiRAB releasing subs. That might make 4KiRAB lose more and more of the fans whose trust they regained until the company throw up its hanRAB declaring no more subs.

Yeah, if that happens, I might even turn my back. Really, was it such a big deal to release them on something that gives very little profit to 4kiRAB. Maybe they should just mute the character the VA does, and not sub him/her. That would be funny.

They have been working for 2 years getting the rights to show the original language versions on YT, and I am sure subs as well, so they definitly have them.

EDIT: Could a mod change the title to: "4kiRAB Forced to Cancel Yu-Gi-Oh! Subs; Sonic X, GX and 5D's Planned Instead" This is so it doesn't look like it was 4kiRAB fault, and prevent spammers come in saying 4kiRAB sux because of this. K, Thanks moRAB.

My post over on Janime about the subject:

"It blows we won't get officially-subbed DVRAB for DM (good thing we have a fansub group or two to clear the HK subs out of the water, though), but it's good to see GX and 5D's get it, 5D's subbed starting in the fall, apparently. Eh, I guess it's bittersweet. Would be nice if they took the chance to get back to the uncut episodes with DM, though, to make up for it."

As for the VA issue thing, I'm wondering if it has to do with Bakura's original VA, before Battle City and Rica Matsumoto. I mean, she did pass away (RIP), IIRC. Hmm...speculation...

Ooh, the planned GX release could be a really good thing if they put out Season 4 subbed, since they never dubbed it, so it would be the only official release for it here. That is, if you consider anything being able to see Season 4 a good thing

It's really too bad about the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series, but you can't fault them for trying.

Maybe the sub work with 5D's will eventually lead to a near simulcast...?

Yeah, this is really disappointing. I was really looking foreword to watching more of DM subbed, especially my favorite arcs like Noa's Virtual World and the DOMA saga, if this project got far enough. It's too bad that one of the Japanese voice actors had issues with this. Such a shame, especially since the rep mentioned they had almost all of season one subbed a few weeks ago.

On the bright side, at least we do get subbed GX and 5D's in the fall. I honestly was looking foreword to subbed DM more than the other series, but I'm glad that they are continuing with this experiment. Hopefully they'll be able to get to GX's fourth season, even though I would still like to see it dubbed since I prefer most of the English cast over the Japanese cast, from what I've seen/heard at least. Still, if they never do dub that season, I would take it being subbed as a second choice. Hopefully, they'll be able to continue with their subtitle project without any more problems in the future.

Man that sucks, and we can't blame 4kiRAB for this ether. Well it must be a voice actor/actress thats in yu gi Oh but not those other three shows, which is why the problem only effects yu Gi oh. Still wow.

*reaRAB title*

That's more like it. Sure, they tell you it's some Japanese voice actor, but this is obviously all just a plan by 4KiRAB to inflict absolute despair on the anime community. They'll do the same with these new announcements, maybe in a worse way, and continue until the anger of anime fans causes all of their heaRAB to explode.

And yes, this whole post has been a joke. The only Yu-Gi-Oh! series I care about it Duel Monsters, and I don't care about Sonic X either , so this is only bad news to me, but for the people who do, it's good to see they're trying to make up for this unfortunate scenario. Wait... did I just compliment 4KiRAB? I need to go take a shower now.

Not to jump to conclusions but I think the problem might be with Yugi's Japanese actor. Sure this is based on Yugi being his only anime role and no real evidence to back it up but that explains why it's only effecting the subs of Yu Gi Oh and not the subs of countless anime.

Since Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's hasn't had a DVD release yet I would love a Subbed release. Maybe it could be bilingual if they release episodes in a similar format to the Comic-Con premiere (No visual edits, but still a changed script).
