I've had my service on summer suspension until the beginning of September. Since then, my 4700 receiver has refused to download any more than a few hours of the program guide at a time. After that, it's "Info Not Available"

I can force a download of the guide by scrolling forward in time in the guide, and it says it's updating the guide, but once that's done there's no change in the guide.

I've tried a hard reset of the receiver as well as unplugging it from the power outlet completely. No difference.

I like the 4700 because it sits in my basement laundry room, and I use it to feed all the TV's in the upstairs of my house. So the UHF remote is important. Otherwise I'd replace it with a 4100 or something.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I'm thinking that perhaps the latest software to support the new smart card has taken up more memory, leaving less for the guide.

I have a 4700 and I too am keeping it around for the UHF remote. I did not suspend my service but I have the same problem as you. My understanding is the 4700 has very limited internal memory thus it is the nature of the beast. Updating the guide and "info" take forever. For what it's worth my 6000 also only displays 2 or 3 hours of programming and then it's "info not available"

All non-pvr models will suffer more and more as channels are added to the system.

Not sure if it still works, but one trick I used to use was to lock and hide all channels that I didn't care about. This seemed to reduce the amount of info that was needlessly stored in memory thus allowing more "good" info to be stored. It may not work this way any more but is worth a try.

I have a similar problem on my 4500 , the picture goes blank for a few seconds , I notice this cut specially happend when a drastic switch of picture during the diffusion. (EX: during news. the person that comment the news passes a take of the event....) you can be sure that I will have a cut.

Since i did not had this problem on my other d

Have you received and activated the new smartcard for that unit?

Do you power off your receivers at night? In most cases I saw when working at Express Vu people having guide problem where people that do not power off their receiver at night (or when not used)

To solve the problem remove the smartcard from the unit until you see system info on screen, then put it back. In most cases this will do the trick

If not you might need to re-intialise your programming... You can do it yourself by going on the bell.ca, log in (create a profile first if you never did) and select the option syncronise my programming or by calling an agent

Yes I did installed the new card , and noticed these cuts since

I do not close the decoder, i will do so and re-intialise to see if there is any change ...
I will keep you posted a little later. there are so many cut it will not be hard to detect

Regarding PAPY`s problem ONLY:

If this happened ONLY after the smartcard change.....

I have this exact problem with my 3500 which I mentioned in this thread:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=96885

Basically, I reported it to Bell and they said that they are working on a new software version due in December. You should report it yourself and see if the 4500 is affected as well.

Thanks BeeDub. I will "TRY" to do that ...

I know you must of call them , then you know it depend verry much on who you talk to in this place...
I find it very difficult not to say frustrating to stay polite with a "Support Person " that, for a reason, you know he is giving you a free ride...

Some of the new smart cards didn't work to well and it may not be anyhting you can fix other than getting the smartcard replaced.

As mentioned, the non-pvr receivers have limited memory for the EPG and it really is only good for a couple of hours at most.
