40 & want to find out about how I can get educated, I don't understand the adult...

Look up your local college or university online and browse through the courses they offer.
There should be a selection of full-time or part-time courses for you to choose.
Anyone of any age can do courses, you're paying for it at the end of the day!
 
...education system.. UK based..? So, I'm 40, no education qualifications (to talk of), haven't worked for 12 years (had children), I have a lot of common sense.

I don't really know what sort of things I would like to go back to 'school' to study as I have never really had a 'goal'.

Is there somewhere I can go to get help? I know I see adverts, but as I'm 40, I don't know if these mean me, or where i would start!
