4 weeks post nissen and upper stomach pains

I am 4 weeks post nissen fundoplication and for the past 2 weeks have been experiencing these stomach pains in the upper and lower stomach. In the upper stomach I think it is happening after eating and feels like I am bruised inside or something feels king of sore, and in the lower stomach it feels like I have done sit ups more muscular pain. I also feel a slight burning all over the stomach occasionally, not like a full blown gastritis but like a very slight gastritis.

Just wondering if this kind of pain is normal at all? I do suffer from constipation and couple of times had to strain quite bad, and actually the first time was really bad and was scared that I might have damaged the wrap.
Just wondering if this pressure on the stomach might have caused these pains.

At a loss here and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these?
 
Just wondering if anyone had LPR and had nissen fundplication done?
I had my surgery 4 weeks ago, no indigestion but do still get phlegm after eating, and post nasal drip, not bad as it was but definitely still there?!!

Is this normal, does it take long time, and how long?
 
Spoke to the surgeon today and he said he doesn't want to put me throughg endoscopy now, but he suspects that it might be excess stomach acid, so he wants me to try the nexium for one week and if the pain improves or not?

I was so hoping that this wasn't the case, but I have to say that I suspected it myself, since my symptoms were not just LPR or indigestion and I always had gastritis as well.

I just didn't want to take meRAB for the rest of my life!!
 
Was your LPR real bad that you have to get the Nissen Fundo?
Have you asked your doctor about it?
I have LPR and after 5 years taking protonix, it came back. I had an upper ENDO yesterday and the doctor put me on Zegerid. I feel an improvement already.
I have a hiatal hernia and the LES that does not close tightly.
 
I had a Nissen Fundoplication about 1 1/2 years ago. Per my GI doc, it takes about 3 months for the stomach to fully heal and all the swelling to dissipate. It makes sense that you would still have some pain.

What kinRAB of fooRAB are you eating? My surgeon was very conservative on what kinRAB of fooRAB I was eating at various intervals of healing. I didn't add meat and bread back for almost 3 months.

My GI doc never took me off of the PPI's. While I consider my surgery successful and have had a Barium Swallow that showed no evidence of reflux, I still continue to take PPI's because of the excessive level of stomach acid I'd been dealing with. I took two PPI's per day until last year when I switched to Kapidex 60.

Give yourself some time to heal. If you haven't tried it, you might use heating pad when the pain is bad. I also got some relief by pushing a pillow against my stomach.

I'm not sure what you mean by upper and lower stomach pain, but I had a LOT of left side stomach pain. I attributed it to the fact that they had to move things around as part of the surgery. I had horrible pain when I moved my core for a long time, but it gradually got better over time.

I had been sufering from silent reflux for 3 years, I had corabination of symptoms, stomach and throat symptoms, the LPR was controlled most of the time by taking 2 x 40mg nexium majority of the time, but the last 6 months before the surgery the symptoms were getting worst, excess phlem horrible feeling in the osephagus when I woke up, the raw feeling there, and the post nasal drip was getting really bad.
Being on 80mg of nexium a day and still suffering like that just didn't cut it for me.
My LES was also weak, and hence I decided to have the surgery. I have to say I would do it all over again if I had to.
Once I found out that the LES wasn't functioning it was a no brainer for me, since it was obvious that this is a condition that would'nt improve over time.
I spoke to my surgeon last night and he said that LPR symptoms do take longer to improve after nissen, and the post nasal drip could be related t my sinusus.
Unfortunately though I am having some stomach pains and he believes it culd be excess stomach acid, so he has me back on 40mg nexium to see if that improves?

When my problems started 3 years ago, I was experiencing very similar pains and I was then diagnosed with gastritis and erosive duodenitis. I did wonder wether he pains are due to surgery?!! I had a barium swallow after the nissen and everything looked fine. My diet is not that great, I still ahve 2 coffees a day, but no meat or bread.
I really don't want to be on meRAB for the rest of my life, I was just so scared and wondering if the straining due to the constipation might have opened up the wrap, I sincerely hope not?!!!
I will try taking the nexium for the next 7 days and see if the pains genuinely get better and if they do, then I know that my stomach produces too much acid, and will try the diet route.
Just one question, did they ever do any tests to find out if your stomach produces too much acid?
 
I've had 2 24 hr pH tests that came back with extremely severe reflux. I also had other digestive issues as a result.

I also had two Upper Endoscopies, 2 Barium Swallows/Esophagrams and 2 Manometries.

I still worry about pulling the stitches. While we have to be careful, I think we are more worried about it than the doctors.

Hope you find some relief soon.
