If done correctly the pull out method has a higher success rate. However it is a bad idea to use it around the time that you are ovulating. If he didn't pull out in time, happened to have sperm in his pre ejaculate, or go any on her vagina at all then she runs a risk of being pregnant. Yes, definitely a possibility. There is a small but concentrated (contains lots of sperm) amount of semen that is released just prior to ejaculation. Also any secretions from the penis during sex may contain sperm.
 
Pulling out is a really stupid form of birth control. you have a HUGE chance of becoming pregnant. just use a condom, or the pill, or a diaphragm, or.....?
