3G iPhone cost to existing AT&T customers?

First of all, wow this forum is dead. With all the apple sackriders on OT I figured this place would be moving as fast as the main forum.

I'm an existing AT&T customer, have been for a few years now. Being in the market for a new phone, looking over the new 3G iPhone, and seeing the price drop, I'm very interested. Since it has been several years since I last switched cell carriers, I'm well aware of how AT&T's deals are catered to those who switch from another service provider.. The low price with 2 year contract are typically not even extended to existing customers. Something I think is completely ridiculous, they are basically giving you incentive to switch but not to stay after the two years are up... But I digress.

From what I've read of the 3G iPhone, the $199 is with a service contract. Will this offer be extended to existing AT&T customers or will we once again be screwed and have to pay some astronomically high full price?
 
the att guy said if i got there and they had them it would be 199. Im fine with the contract, although he made no mention of it (and i thought the original press release said no contract ) and ive yet to hear anything about the necessity to have a past iphone...
 
The girl in the at&t retail outlet said that the phone would cost $199 to me, as an existing customer. They are not taking reserves. The 3G iPhone data plan is also more expensive, I think she said it's $40. Even if you already have a data plan, it won't carry over. Some special plan only for the new iPhone.

She also said something about not having to sign a new contract. I didn't understand that since all the press I've seen so far says $199 with a two year contract.

I'm still not convinced.
 
I talked to my guy again and he said no contract and the data plan will be 30/mo and it is iPhone specific.

I dont know how much of this employees are actually told though. Everyone hears it through their "inside source"...so until the 11th it doesnt matter.

Wierd how ATT workers are telling me different things as well.

I was told that if you dont have an Iphone already but you have ATT, you're fucked..like the guy above said.

thougth it would be 30 dollars...where did 40 dollars a month come from? hmm
 
THE PHONE IS NOT OUT YET, ALL OF THE "INFORMATION" IS SPECULATION. STOP BEATING OFF, TAKE A BREATH, WAIT FOR THE FUCKING THING TO EXIST, THEN LOOK UP THE PRICING.
 
if you have an iphone you get the discounted price. (i checked my own personal att acct to get this info) the 3G data plan will be raised from 20 to 30.00 and you will only get the new iphone for the discounted price with a 2 year contract. You will not be able to buy the new iphone out right like you could that first one you will need to sing a contract before you get the phone.
 
that is fucking wrong, i just called AT&T today, since i am an existing customer and am not eligible for an upgrade, the new iPhone 3g 8gb will be $399 and the 16gb will be $599, that, and i have to add a "Consumer Data Plan" to my existing wireless plan for $30 a month.

It all evens out in the end imo
