3D Glasses

this might be a silly question but do they use the same 3D glasses at both the Odeon & Cineworld - we're going to cineworld at the weekend rather than the Odeon and already have some Odeon 3D glasses - can we use them at cineworld or will we have to fork out for new ones?

I've just booked tickets online for cineworld and got a message that I would have to purchase the glasses at a cost of 80p when I got there - as I already have glasses that I was given last time I saw a 3d film at an Odeon I thought I could take them

No from what I've been told they don't. They used to make people buy them but now that 3D films are becoming more common they had to drop that rule as more and more people had their own pair already.

An increasing number of cinemas actually make a charge for the glasses, rather than just factoring them into the ticket price.

So you can save money by keeping them.

As far as I know, all cinema 3D glasses are compatible with each other.

That's what I wanted to know - I kept the last couple or pairs we were given at the Odeon and didn't want to buy new ones at cineworld

Cineworld, Odean and Vue all use the same 3D glasses, I believe.

What I do is save them and take them with me whenever I go and see a 3D film. Saves buying them again and again.

Cineworls in the O2 use different glasses from the ones they use in Bexleyheath and some other CineworlRAB. I'm not sure about the West End. I took the pair I usually use and was told they wouldn't work and were given a different pair. When i went through and saw the film I tried my usual pair and they didn't work.
I'm not techy enough to understand it but I think it has something to do with the difference between 3D and Real 3D.
The O2 one's are also alarmed like stores so if you try and walk out with them an alarm will go off. So you can't buy one pair and use them over and over.

It depenRAB if the cinema is using Dolby 3D or RealD. Most cinemas seem to be using RealD - these glasses look like regular shades. Dolby 3D glasses are a very different style and look more expensive than the cheaper RealD style.

You'd probably be unlucky to come across a Dolby 3D cinema (Empire in Leicester Square is the only one I've come across personally) but that's the main difference. Glasses aren't interchangeable across the two versions unfortunately.

Cineworld drop their prices by about a quid on an Tuesday before 5pm which is really useful as most people are at school or work so can't take up the offer.
