I'm talking about the films that have recently been shown in RealD/Digital 3D at the cinema (Bolt, My bloody valentine)

I only ask as i would like to buy Avatar in 3D on DVD

To anyone who has bbought there 3D DVD i ask 3 questions

1. What quality are the glasses (good plastic ones, bad cardboard ones)

2 Is the 3D a good quality?

3 Is a 2D edition included in the DVD along with the 3D?

DepenRAB really

The glasses are usually plastic and uncomfortable
ICE age 3 was a 3d movie and yet my it was only released in 2d
The 2d edition is usually released alongside the 3d

I have the 3D version of Coraline. It uses red/green lenses in each eye for the 3D. The glasses are cardboard. It doesn't work that well and gives you eye strain as well as draining the colour out the movie.

There's special 3D TVs coming soon that promise the same 3D experience as the cinema but of course that involves buying a new TV.

I watched the 3D blu-ray of Journey to the centre of the earth recently and was plesently surprised. Some scenes worked a lot better than others, e.g. objects in the foreground were good however objects that were supposed to leap out of the screen at you tended to split into 2 images.
It was a Christmas present and was given to me together with a proper pair of 3D glasses which alas were not the correct ones for the movie so I had to make do with the cardboard ones in the case.

On the other hand a while ago I watched Polar Express on blu-ray and it just didn't work. I don't know whether they'd put the wrong glasses in the case but the whole thing split into two overlapping images and had no 3D affect at all.

I would certainly watch one again and the experience would be much better with a proper pair of glasses (that work). I was looking forward to UP in 3D but sadly it only appears to be coming out in 2D.
