3D Cinema

We all thought it was a novelty, this new 3D cinema, but it's getting beyond a joke now. It's seriously taken off, with every other film now being distributed in 3D.

Cinemas have to start seriously investing in more projectors. In the cinemas within a 30 mile radius of my home only 2 have more than 1 screen for 3D movies. I really don't want to travel 30 miles to see a new film at a time I enjoy watching films.

This Saturday I was really looking forward to seeing Clash of the Titans, but it has 1 showing that starts between 8.45pm and 9.30pm at my local cinemas, the time I will be making myself ready to goto out for the evening with frienRAB to go clubbing. Now I've no idea when, or even if, I'll get to see it in 3D in a cinema due to working commitments.

If I wish to see it at a reasonable time I have to travel to Trafford Centre, Manchester, but that involves a 45 minute car ride each way and with fuel costs as high as they are it's another

Have you actually been to see a 3D film yet?
My experiences so far have been 50/50.
I've seen U2 at IMAX London and Avatar in Taunton. U2 didn't work at all for me...Bono almost sitting in my lap...don't think so!! but I was particularly impressed with Avatar. None of the objects leaping out of the screen gimmicky stuff, but genuine depth as I've never seen before. This in my opinion is how 3D should be done. Of course you look a bit of a prat wearing the glasses and I take your point about sub standard plot lines.

To me it's just a massive gimmick just to fight piracy and an excuse to get people into the cinema. I went in watching Avatar thinking 'wow, this is pretty sick', but after 20 minutes I was already sick of it. How does it enhance a film exactly? How is it supposed to immerse you especially when I was something as boring as Avatar, looking at my phone to see how long the film had been going on and just wanting to leave. Give me a film with a strong story that I can feel 'immersed' in; not needing to wear glasses and have stuff point out the screen at you because that's basically all what the technology does. Once you get past that you realize there isn't really much else it can do and you see it for the shallow, money grabbing gimmick it is

I absolutely loved Avatar in 3d, it really brought it to life for me. I can't wait to see Clash of the titans next week - although it's the same for me here, late showing times! What the hell is that all about?!

EDIT - I also really enjoy foreign films and slower paced films with more depth and character development. I think there is room for all types of films...being a film lover, I can appreciate most genres....most, not all!

Don't get too excited.

Clash Of The Titans has been universally panned, especially for the 3D.

This makes me immensely happy, because it will put a stop to the new lazy in Hollywood.

3D is not your new "CGI" Don't be thinking people will lap up poor 3D like they have done CGI when it comes to the general public.

I personally decided to not bother with 3D anymore quite some time ago. As far as I am concerned, if you need glasses to view it? It's a gimmick, and one which is likely to lead to many people getting unnecessary headaches and eye problems in the process.

For anybody interested, you can find my review of the film here.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I actually fought with myself as to whether I should watch this in 3D or not specifically for my review. I should have went with my gut instinct, because I became fed up with the poor 3D conversion incredibly quickly.

I may check this out in 2D when it arrives on DVD/Blu-ray. I say may because I honestly don't think a home entertainment experience is going to improve the film to any drastic degree.

If it looks like a turkey and smells like a turkey then it must taste like turkey.

im really pleased there are still some sane people left! i have never seen a 3D film cos i refuse to pay extra when i can see the same film in 2D for less. Cinema prices are astronomical as it is without adding this rubbish to it!
It really annoys me how people are such sheep, they are only going to watch 3D cos everyone else is and they will always make films in 3D now cos they get extra money for it. My local cinema is mostly 3D now, the 2D showings get about a week showing with about 4/5 a day, whereas 3D gets much longer with more showings, its not fair.
Just another case of our "free" country not giving us a choice, AGAIN!

The 3D in Clash Of The Titans is poor, if you go see it, 2D is the better option. Don't be put off by the bad reviews though, its a great blockbuster... it was never going to be winning any Oscars anyway!

I've been reading a lot that the 3D verson isnt much cop. I will see it in 2D tomorrow then, was originally planning on seeing it in 3D.

Speak for yourself. No we ALL didn't.
I, and I imagine others, were well aware that this was an industry push even before all these recent 3D films started coming out.
There has been so much money invested in 3D technologies, including home entertainment media systems, that the industry would really like 3D to succeed.

I see no reason why 3D films can't be as good as any other type of film. It's all going to depend on the story and how well executed it is.
