36 weeks pregnant w/sharp pains in side?

I'm pregnant with my third child, 36 weeks today. For the past two days, I have been experiencing sharp pains in my left side. They intensify when I am sleeping and try to roll to the other side, or when I go from sitting or laying down to standing. Some of the pain feels like it's coming from the pelvic area, which I know is normal as the baby is preparing for birth. It has made me a little nervous/anxious and I have been watching for other signs of baby like the loss of the mucus plug, etc.

I have also noticed increased thick, white discharge... it's a little different than the white milky substance which increases in pregnancy. It is white, but almost like lotion? I know its gross, but aside from posting a picture (not happening!!) I don't know how else to describe it. It doesn't have an odor, no itch or anything crazy like that.

My second son was 2 weeks early, and my first was only 2 days late, so I am not ruling out the chance of this child coming a little earlier than anticipated. The baby is kicking and moving around, etc, but the pain in my side is sometimes unbearable and I have to physically bend at the waist and lean forward until I am able to stand up straight again.

Any ideas as to what's going on? Is this 'normal' at this stage of the pregnancy? Could these be signs of a soon approaching labor, or is it it more likely that I still have 4 weeks of waiting left?

Thanks (:
