Only the lower end 2700 had volume control. Just program your remote to use the volume on the tv.

Firmware in the receiver will update even without the smartcard installed so geting "current" firmware is never an issue.

Well if they are all doing the same thing I guess you can rule out the receivers, the chances of all 40 failing would be pretty slim.

Start out by verifying that there is signal from the LNBF by connecting directly from a receiver to the LNBF. If that works try using the existing cable and by-passing the switch/switch's. If that works then it must be the switch's.

It the switch's are powered, see if the Power Supply has become disconnected.

Or if the LNBF is powered directly and not from the receivers (Which would be how I would do a 40 receiver setup), see if this unit has power.

An outdated card could be an issue, but the receiver should still work for the promo channels.

This is a fairly common issue and a summary of other posts is:

First, it is always a good idea to ensure you unplug the power to your receiver (and any powered switches) when making any sort of cabling change. Any single piece of equipment is sending voltage through the cabling. Touching the centre core wire to the frame or connector housing can cause a short that can do damage to the electronics.

Second, the most likely cause of this is a bad or poorly installed connector. A stray strand of the ground touching the centre core for example can easily cause this failure. The centre core wire being too long or too short can also cause this. Often the centre core is damaged during the install of the connector and can become brittle and bend or break off as well.

Check all connectors. Replace anything questionable. Try a different wire. (try the receiver at another location)

It *can* be a failed LNB or alignment issue, but since you have another working system, this isn't likely.

Unplug the power to all components. Plug power back in. See if it is resolved.

Unplug the power, disconnect the sat feed into the receiver, run a check switch (with the cable disconnected) to "reset" the test. Connect the feed cable, connect the power, rerun the check switch.

My money is on the connector :)

I'd leave this one alone guys until the OP responds again. I suspect the 40 may have been a typo for 4. Lots of good info already, no point in speculating further until there is more info provided.

I never knew that if you buy a refurbished 3100 from Express Vu they expect you to return the old one.?

Is this new.?

What if a Customer just wants to ADD a refurbished 3100.?

Another likely problem is that if you happen to be using RG59 cabling to your old receiver it will not receive signal on the 18 volt transponders (which I think are the even numbered ones) as this grade of cable cannot carry the signal properly. You may have been alright before as you said you are adding an HDTV receiver now though. I would double check the cable grade and make sure you are using at least RG6 with double shield (that is pretty much standard at any hardware store) cable.

That's correct the 2700 and 4700 for sure.

Do not think any of the current model do, I would also doubt that the upcoming one will either, this function seems to have gone by the wayside.

That said, all FTA's appear to have this function.

Hi
I had the same symptoms with my 3100 last fall. Finally had to re-activate my old 2700 which is chugging along fine.
I mention this because I think some are suspicious of the card swap, my 3100 died a similar death almost a year ago when the card swap was only a gleam in expressvu's eye.
I would prefer to use the 3100 though, so am watching this in case there's a fix.

It's 90 warranty period on the installation
BUT
1 year warranty on bought equipement and rentals are always warrantied

All unit shipped to replace defective unit are refurbish. Bell is not the only one doing so, Dell does the same

If your 1 year warranty is not over (let's say you are shipped a refurbished on your 4th month) they have to send you another unit if the refurbish breaks again I belive

Sorry to bump an old post, but this is exactly the problem I am having with one of my 3100's.

I've lost all transponders 13 and over. Signal strength is 0. I've tested the receiver on several dishes, all using proper cabling, with other receivers getting all appropriate channels.

Here's the twist -

Upon the first call to BEV, the tech support in India outright said it was a hardware problem and a new reciever needed to be purchased/rented. Although this was the newest unit I have (2 2700's working fine), I accepted, and went out and purchased a new HD unit. Upon calling the sales department at BEV (not tech support) the CSR noticed that one of my 3100's was "disabled." She quickly activated it, and what would you know, all channels/transponders on the 3100 was working just FINE!

What a relief - for about 3 hours. After that time, the issue (deactivation) reappeared, and at one point, one of the 2700 units was doing the SAME thing. Additional calls to BEV CSRs (tech) after describing the problem without any sort of diagnostic was that the hardware needed to be replaced.

My problem with this situation is, why was the BEV CSR (sales) able to 'reactivate' the unit for a duration of 3 hours, and the 'tech' departments only fix is to replace the unit.

I've also heard that BEV randomly deactivates units for the customer to call in to try to pitch them a new unit, etc, and that they don't want this old hardware out there.

Calls to the CSR's are hopless, and after the conversation with the sales CSR and reactivation, I'm certain that the unit is functioning properly, and that BEV is messing with my unit.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Can anyone help me as the tech on the phone couldn't. I was supposed to get a PVR installed so I disconnected my non-working VCR. The PVR installer was not scheduled apparently:mad:. Now I cannot get my 3100 working on my TV.
This TV was connected to a splitter that ran down to the basement to a TV that was only used when company came. It had to watch the same channels as upstairs. Now I can't get any satellite signal.
I have tried every connection possible. Even tried reconnecting the VCR as I know that worked. Can't get that to work.
I am totally at a loss.

Splitter had Video/Satellite cable coming in from wall jack into one pin "out"
second pin out had another cable on it with a single pin on each end - connected to "out" on splitter
On other side of splitter (3 connections) middle had cable - labelled "sat 92"

Really, I am sure I have tried every combination......any suggestions.

Also, (forgot to mention) run a check-switch on both receiver (I'm assuming you installed a second LNBF) to make sure they can see the switch properly. It should show up as either and SW21 or SW44 if that is the type you installed in the system info screen.

Anyone ever had a receiver just quit working? I have a old 3100 that says there is no satellite signal coming in, but there is. (I tested it on a live sat wire) Just curious, I am looking to replace it with a pvr anyway.

Where bouts is the reciever located? On a shelf, or ontop of the T.v? If it's ontop of the T.v...you might be getting interference from the T.v to the reciever.

Just a thought.

Cheers

Are you in an Apartment Building.?

The normal installation of Bell does not use splitters, so we will need more info to help you.

Normally you need 1 line from the receiver to either the LNBF or Multiswitch for it to work correctly.

My 3100 has been working flawlessly for 5 years until a few days ago. I had signal problems (it turned out to be a faulty cable, I replaced it) for about two days and during that time, my 3100 stopped working. I was actually watching the

By the way most CSR who answer your calls are also tech, the same agent you would have spoken to had you choose different options...

Receivers will pick up signal whether they are activated or not on the account... When we activate a receiveron an account we have to make sure that the client gets at least 70% signal. It is most probably a hardware problem, and the agent who was wrong is the one who reactivated the unit... Why it worked for a few hours? Not able to explain... Last breath befire death...
