3100 Problems Thread

Hi guys,
I have my 3100 receiver hooked up to an auxillary input on my computer speakers. Meaning the receiver is plugged directly into my speakers. I want to be able to control the volume through the 3100 receiver because there is wireless remote, or audio receiver with the speakers. Is there anyway for the 3100 to control the volume?

Keep in mind though that 2 receivers (different models) use different components and different scales to indiocate signal strength.

I've run different models side by side off the same dish/switch (and swapped cables to be sure) as often see a 10% difference on the same sat/TP.

Granted, in your case 50% drop is likely something else going wrong, but could be as simple as replacing the connector on the cable. It could be as minor as the centre conductor being too short or too long to make good contact in one unit.

FTA? Not worth the $$, time wasted on uploading, lost channels as pirates and BEV battle for a secure signal. Just pay and then sit and watch.:)

Okay so before anyone laughs, I want to make it clear, I am not a techno geek, so I may have terms wrong, make stupid comments, look stupid, or just seem stupid in general. Now that I have that out of the way, I have a question for anyone who is technically better than me, and that would be everyone!

I have BEV 3100 receivers, and two in the past three days have started searching for signal...they will not connect to the satellite at all. I have tried everything short of throwing them through a wall, which will come next.

They just keep scrolling through transponders? Whatever they are, I called Jason Statham and he told me he was the "transporter" not transponder, as you can see, I am clearly lost.

Any ideas? Other than upgrading...since I have 40 of the units it would be a little expensive.

very strange. i just saw your last post. except mine broke conveniently 2 weeks after the 90day warranty period...I had exchanged my first receiver and got a "new" one a week or so later except the failed to tell me that it was in fact refurbished and only had a 3 month warranty. I was po'd.

that is very odd though, about yours having the exact same problem as mine.
do you have it running through the DP44 Switch as well?

They have same fonctions...

If the receiver will be disconected, either to be moved from one room to another or from cottage to home (following the policy) I suggest that you take a 4100, a 3100 will cause you to loose your channels, they will become red in the guide

If receiver can not be connected directly in the electrical plug I suggest that you get a 3100. 4100 tend to be sound sensitive.

If they said it was pre-Aladin that means you will have to pay to get it replaced...

Bell had a smartcard programm replacement free of charge until last year...
All the clients that didn't had the new blue card and were reactivating a old unit were shipped a new card free of charge. Since it has been a few years since the card swap (and they were probably planning this year's card swap) they decided to stop that last summer.

Clients, like you, who have an old card must now pay 69$ to get a new smartcard. Problem is, if the receiver doesn't have the latest software version (as it's most likely the case) it is possible that the card won't "marry" to the receiver and won't work. Smartcards are not refundable even in that case.

Used 3100 are sold on E-Bay and Kijiji often for as low as 25-30$
Make sure if you choose that route that the previous owner called to say he was selling the receiver, otherwise you won't be able to activate it

You can get a refurbished one for 49$ + shipping and handeling (12$) if your receiver is out of warranty. They will ask you to return the old receiver and the new one will be warratied 3 months

If you haven't called Express Vu about it you could also suscribe to Dish Care for 6$ a month which would cover all your receivers. You need to take it for a minimum of 1 year

It sounds like your dish is out of allignment, or the LNB's are dead.
Do you have 40 receivers hooked up all at once?
If so, then it could be something with your multi switches...

You have 40 receivers? Are you using a MDU antenna? Are the other receivers receiving signal? As it been snowing where you live?

There could be many possible causes to your problem
-SNOW ON THE DISH
At this time of the year it is the most common cause of a signal lost. If the dish is accessible remove the snow from the dish and reception will get back to normal
-DISH ALIGNEMENT
Dish with time (and Canadian weather condition!) might have moved. If your installation is less than 90 days call BellTV and they will send you a tech free of charge to realign your dish. If your installation is more than 90 days it will cost you 75$.
-RECEIVER PROBLEM
Your receiver could also be defective. If you have other receivers in the same household and the others are fine it is most probably the cause. Put one of your other receiver in the room where you currently have the problem. If the other receiver works there, than the receiver is to blame. Receiver is warrantied for a year, after that period BellTV could sell you a refurbish unit for 49$ + 13$ shippping, not worth it according to me, since new unit are sold 99$ brand new.
-CABLE PROBLEM
It could be the cable going from the dish to the receiver that is defective. If you put one of your working receiver in the room where you have the problem and that receiver, in the same room has the same problem, than cable is to blame.
-LNBF PROBLEM
In the year and a half that I worked at Express Vu I never had any clients experiencing a LNBF problem, so I supposed it is not a common issue
-CABLE HOOKED IN TV/ANTENNA IN RATHER THAN SAT IN
Was that receiver unplugged recently? If so, are you sure that the cable comming from the dish to the receiver is hooked in SAT IN, not TV/ANTENNA IN? If the cable is in TV/ANTENNA IN change it to SAT IN

That's actually helpful :)

Often that indicates a signal/cabling issue but you should still be able to get something on the TV. For example, pulling the card should force the System Information screen to appear.

One common mistake is to connect the coax lines to the wrong connectors. Ensure they are correct.

Which connection are you using for your TV?
Once the connections have been verified, try leaving it along for an hour with the power plugged in. It could also be in need of a firmware update.

4100's dont like to be on top of tv's (interference causes high transponders to lose signal??? correct me if im wrong techies out there)
i think it may have something to do with the plastic shell, and lack of a metal bottom to prevent the interference from the tv, so if your current set up has the box on top of the tv, take this into consideration
stay away form the dishcare program (cheaper to buy a box for $50, than the $72 dish care will cost, unless you use the dishcare to replace a PVR, 6000, 6100, etc....)

Awww yes true i missed that part.

Yep Switch 44... just got off the phone with Bell and it started working again. Going to keep my eye on it now though... i'm suspicious lol.

Basically it came on but only after unplugging in and out and unhooking the dish line many times(which I did a hundred times yesterday and today already). It just started acting up in the last 1-2 days and all other receiver in my home are ok... but they are 6100 and 6141s.

Ok,
Everything eas working fine, until I disconnected my receiver as I was installing another hdtv and dish and the work was just easier to temporarily disconnect the reciever. After about a week i hooked the receiver back up, no change in cable or anything, and now I cannot get any channel on an even numbered transponder. I also have a hd setup on this dish, and it was not touched at all and I get all the channels fine so I don't think it is a dish aiming issue. Since I am using the same cables as before, nothing has changed. Could it just be the reciever is not working correctly? When I check signal strength it is fine on odd transponders, zero on even ones. My hd setup on this dish is fine for both odd and even. My reciever is connected to the phone line, has the newest software but no even transponders. Any help is much appreciated.

yeah i did the same thing before that happened, i was re-wiring my hometheater room and the next day it wasn't working....grrr...let me know what you find. I thought mine was the switch because the connector was a little wonky so i fixed it up, but need to find a new one to replace it.

"3100 will cause you to loose your channels, they will become red in the guide" - both will go red guide after being disconnected for the same time - model does not matter.
4100 just smaller and has 5.1 output.

If for a long time yes,. most probably both will loose programming. But if it's a matter of a day or 2, the 3100 will most probably loose it, and the 4100 willmost probably keep it

Check with local electronic shops. Some will take a motherboard out of another 3100 (garage sale, ebay, trade in, etc), reprogram it and put it in your case. Cheap and easy fix to get your unit running again.

Also if it hasn't been used for a few years, it may need an upgraded card. Did you receive the new card when the swap occurred a few years ago?
Whoops noticed Dosborne has already mentioned this but perhaps it needs restating. Delete if you want.
