3100 Problems Thread

If you have a second receiver, try swapping them over and see if the problem follows the receiver or the cable.......

If the problem follows the receiver, you most likely have a dying receiver, if it follows the cable you will need to do more investigation / troubleshooting.

If you have an Upgrade Kit installed, try doing a check switch.

Let us know what happens.

I called about a new card, but they told me that I did not need a new card. I though that was quite strange. the lingo they used was pre aladin?? I tried one of my other old blue cards and the signal loads right away and I can watch the free bell channels, but anyting else it tell me that my smartcard does not have permission to view.

I couldn't agree more picard1, i have spent the last year being laughed at by my in-laws for paying for bell while they used their fta boxes and they bragged of free ppvs. Last night, i got the joy of not picking up the phone when I saw they were dialing, figuring they wanted to watch the game.

You will never watch tv the same way again......
Enjoy the PVR, and never having to watch commercials again

I don't think I have seen the refurbished 4100's come up for sale, they are used mainly for Rental customers.

A refurbished 3100 should be available for around $49 I believe.

Wow, that's a pretty generic question.

Did you plug in the power? LOL

Did you connect it up correctly?
Do you see *anything* on your TV?
Is the remote ID correct?
Did you try the front panel power button?
Did you try removing the card (which is likely out of date).

This is often a cabling issue. I've seen numerous times were a single strand of wire from the outside connector is touching the centre wire. The charge builds up and releases causing the signal drop. Fixing the connector (try replacing all of them, cheap and worth a shot) and properly grounding the cable may resolve it.

Unfortunately there are many potential causes and a hardware failure in the IRD is one on the list. Try the simple and low cost ones first such as what has been usggested so far in this thread. There are a number of other threads on the subject that you might want to search for too.

If same transponder, same cable, same connectors.........then the 3100 is probably at fault.

I would double check all your connectors to be sure though.

Please supply the first digits of your Card.

S04**

Then I can tell you if you need another Card or not.

they must have had a crappy box... cuse its all up on the US company and all except ppv and porn on the the can company.. and YOU NEVER hack without having a legit backup... thats what my special friend tells me....lol...I pay 110$ to bell EVERY month for xpressvu...

Hey there,

I have a 3100 that I have had since 2004 that decided to break this week. At first it wouldn't come on, green light up for a second and then would turn off... power button is not responding at all unless i hold it in to reset but then it dies again... the ODD time it may start up but will not connect properly and can't seem to connect to all transponders.

I have 4 receivers in my home, all other work fine so I am sure i have no switch/signal issues.

Any ideas?

Also, the 3100 has the new card since march 2008.

Thanks!

The green light on the front panel comes on for about 15 sec when i plug it in,pull the card, or hold the power button in. Nothing shows up on the tv.

Refurbished 3100 and 4100 are sold 49$ plus 12$ shipping and handling (63$). You can only get then throught our TECH 3 departement

Taking DISH CARE for a year will cost you 6$/month (72$)

New 3100 and 4100 are sold 99$ at Bell stores, or you might even get in special at our retailler (Future Shop-Dumoulin)

Thanks for your replies Nimiq and Agent.
I should probably go for a 4100. I think I read somewhere that it changes channels faster. Is there any other reason to go with a 4100 vs 3100?

I had a 3100 with s-video and RCA audio connected. Never noticed a heat issue. It seems odd that these connection would cause a heat problem.

I tried moving the receivers, same problem. I checked all the cables they llok good too. It looks like its a new receiver in my future
