Decent comic-book/popcorn film dressed up in historical clothes. The film has a terrific visual style, with a somewhat grimy colour palette and portays the tough, hard Spartans as heroes, going up against the huge might of King Xerxes's Persian Army. A crunching rock soundtrack tells you you're in MTV terrortory though the battles look great, with use of slow motion and undercranking which show every slash and drop of blood.
In terms of substance though I didnt think there was much, the film feels like lots of "battle" with occasional narrative voiceover and that's about it.
Good fun though.

Has anyone else seen it?

Got it free yesterday with my toshiba hd dvd player,seen it before.To be honest i find it rather boring.
I prefer gladiator and troy.

Saw it at the cinema and was in awe.
Normal tellys just don't do it justice IMO.

I've always wondered about this battle why the Persian fleet just didn't sail further south and land somewhere else, thus avoiding the bottleneck in the mountains. Not very good strategic planning there if you ask me.

As for the film I thought it was visually great but it was like Ancient Greece meets Lord of the Rings meets The Elephant Man.

Gerard Butler was good as the King and Lena Headey can be my Queen anytime she wants.

It's worth it just to see an oiled up Gerard Butler and mates damn close to being in the buff.
