'300'

I dragged my boyfriend to see this movie. Although, he's a comic-book geek, he thought this would be rubbish based on the reviews and Gerard Butler's shouting in the trailers. "This is SPARTA!!!!!"
However, we both really enjoyed it. The fight scenes were excellent. The visuals were great.

Oh, and of course I loved the boRAB, although the boyfriend insists they were CG. I saw a "making of" and, trust me, the eight-packs are very, very real! Yummy! They may have added a few shadows by CG, but there was definitely something there for the computer guys to work with!

The film has been criticised for what some have seen as it's overt "right-ist"/republican/neo-con sensibilities, so perhaps "King Leonidas was a bit of a George Bush really" would have been more accurate.

Personally, I don't hold with any of that and think it nonsense. Frank Millers' original had exactly the same ingredients and didn't catch any flack - because there wasn't anything out of order about it.
It's clearly a case of people projecting their own preconceptions onto something that is, in itself, totally blameless.
The Greeks happened to be white and some of those they fought happened to be a different colour (and happened to have connections to an area now known as Iran/Iraq).

Lets face it, having a Scottish accent gives Leonidas some authority.

Now, if he was to stand there and deliver one of those accents with a Brummy accent I don't thin the "300" would have lasted long.

Of course, you may think I am only saying this as I too am a Scot. But his accent did come across very powerfully. It seemed to have an "ancient" quality about it. You know what I mean?!?!

Film was O.K. It did lack some soul. I wish they had built up the background story a bit more.

Saw a trailer last night when I went to the cinema! Looks good! Will defo go and see it. On the trailer it said coming soon but when we was walking out there was a poster saying March 23rd.

Apparentely the actors were airbrushed after filming, to give them six-packs.

Empire have given it 3 out of 5. I just hope I have someone to see this with...!

Saw this last night and was disasppointed.

Visually it's like a computer game, great battle sequences etc, and it was laugh out loud unintentionally funny with some of the acting, especially the Persian king, absolutely hilarious.

The script was non existent as was the plot, and it's quite homoerotic and camp, but I mean hey, it's a blockbuster and a bit of fun I guess??

I think it suffers from being compared to the likes of Gladiator as it has none of the emotion or soul of that movie, think more along the lines of Troy, pretty boys in tights and style over substance, with a mix of LOTR.

Definitely worth a look but don't expect anything too taxing on the brain!!

I got the DKR when it first came out and 300.
Both got a lot of flack.

Nah. George Bush see's Saudi Arabia, Kuwait... etc as allies. The Spartans wouldn't even consider that idea.

And it wasn't that they were white. You clearly saw how they wouldn't accept other white's (fellow countrymen) that they saw as 'lesser'.

There's a nice bit in 'Ugly Betty' (US pace) coming up that describes 300 nicely.

Actually they have said that the six packs were all real and not effects.

I went to see this film last night and abosolutley loved it. Its not a film for the girls though.

The fight scenes with the slow-fast thing were amazing.. I was a bit open mouthed at some of those scenes.

People have to remember this is based on a comic book version of events.. so of course it will be OTT. I thought the acting and music was top notch.. I really got into it.. the town stuff may have been slower pace but not too distracting from the action.

Ignore the film, I'm talking about what's gone on around it. The Iranian government actually did denounce this film as propaganda. FIlm critics have seen this as being a celebration of Bush's neo-con governments' foreign policy...

I heard that when it was first shown at a film festival think it was in Belgium (!?) it received standing ovation. and thats from critics. i also heard its a cross between gladiator and lord of the rings...perfect then!
