30 Days Of Night

I loved the bird's eye view from the town which showed the devastation caused by the vampires.

Thought the ending was quite different though:
wasn't expecting Josh Hartnett to die and thought when he killed the main vampire the rest of the vampires would return to human form? Josh Hartnett's character was needed to rebuild the town and I didn't see why he had to turn himself into a vampire, the car that Melissa George was under was not in danger at that point and was the sun not coming up in half an hour....

Just my opinion!
 
Little more than the sum of its (body) parts really. The Thing + Salem's Lot + 28 Days Later + a smidgeon of Blade = 30 Days of Night.
Gory and stylish-looking but it lacked tension and scares partly due to an indistinct timeline and plot holes.
Why didn't Hartnett move the UV lamp closer to the generator so the vamps couldn't turn it off or better still take it with him!? Doh!
Should have given it to Neil Marshall.
 
i saw it last night and i have to agree with the above.

It started off quite good and i loved the build up but it went downhill as soon as the vampires started talking and spouting meaningless lines (that are meant to sound really clever) such as "When man comes up against something he can't destroy, he destroys himself instead". it didnt help that all the characters were really boring and i couldn't care about any of them.

Also, it reminded me of far better films such as assault of precinct 13, the thing, 28 days later, dawn of the dead, dusk till dawn, dog soldiers, blade, the descent, lost boys, near dark, etc.

Exactly what I thought. All the trailers etc looked great, but was so dissapointing. I kept nodding off and I rarely do that in the cinema. In the end I was only keeping my eyes open for Josh Hartnett. ;)
 
Perfect description of the film, imo.

Some of the ideas and concepts in it were superb, but most were horribly executed.

Favourite bit HAS to be when they are about to play Paper, Scissor, Stone.... :D
 
wow, im quite surprised with the comments about this film - not so much on this thread, but imdb really slates it.
I just watched it this afternoon, and i have to say i really enjoyed it, and it is definitely one of the best horrors to have been made recently. I dont know how it was boring - i couldnt wait to see what happened next and was on the edge of my seat sometimes.
I think the vampires were made really well - much more realistic looking compared to some other vampire films. And that little girl was just brilliant!! lol
Will definitely get this when its released.

The only thing i missed though was what the vampires say - as the 'version' i had didnt show them. :o
 
The movie has the right kind of setting and idea for a storyline, it just wasn't used in the way it should have been. A wasted opportunity is what it is. Storyline was paper thin too it felt like a popcorn flick and not a serious horror movie. The violence more or less happened oRABcreen with very little being shown.

Rating: 7/10.
