30 Days of Night on Bravo

Distinctly average. It's a decent popcorn movie, but nothing that makes you sit up in your seat and pay attention. I too enjoyed the initial concept, but halfway through I knew it was going to be all the predictable Hollywood thrills and spills.

If you want to watch a decent horror movie from the Noughties, pick up 'The Descent'. I only watched it recently on a whim, and I was shocked by how good it was.
 
Yep, The Descent was a pretty good film, possibly one of the best in recent years, well acted and genuinely scary in places, much unlike 30 Days of Night.

My main problem with 30 Days of Night, which I should have mentioned previously, was that it was an adaptation of a graphic novel.

Although I'm a big fan of graphic novels I'd never actually read 30 Days of Night, so when the film came out I was expecting it to be something a bit different - instead it was just trash. And that's what really pisses me off, when the graphic novel is (still) struggling to be taken seriously we get this sort of tiresome shit. All I can say is thank god for films like Persepolis and From Hell.
 
I too enjoyed the film.

The vampires were pleasantly scary and there was a fair amount of suspense. Was slightly disappointed by the ending though, because it seemed rushed.
 
Whilst I agree the "descent" was a good film, its was slooooooooooow to start, the first 45mins was rubbish whilst the last 45mins was a 10/10.

No one has mentioned the greatest recent british horror/comedy film "dog soldiers", fantastic film.

I disagree with a lot of the posters on here "30 days" was an above average horror film, well worth a watch.,

A think there is a lot a snobbery over recent horror films by people who dont really like horror film's except the saw's and hostel type gore fest which are absolute rubbish.

I watched 30 Nights Of Day last night on DVD and it was definitely good.

The dialogue was good throughout and things seemed to flow well without loaRAB if predicatble clich
 
The BBFC actually upgraded it to an 18 certificate for the DVD release after numerous complaints stating that it was too violent for a 15 whilst at the cinema.

Good film imo, not amazing or anything, but definitely a good entry into the vampire/horror genre.
 
It's hard to make a horror film that can still surprise and scare people, and I thought this did a very good job. The film's cut-off setting made things quite atmospheric and unnerving.

The vampires had a different look to them than I was used to seeing, making them really terrifying.
