I suppose an Angel Heart remake could possibly be watchable but the twist is now known (and was fairly obvious anyway) and it was the imagery,atmosphere and charismatic performances that carried the original.

Hard to imagine anybody doing a better job than the late Roddy McDowell in Fright Night.The special effects hold up well considering it's nearly 25 years old.

Cliffhanger is by far the most pointless.It was only made in 1993,with a thin story to start with.It was a very entertaining action movie but is there any point in remaking that one.Surely it's best to just create another high impact action movie with new characters,story etc.
 
I saw Angel Heart many years back and couldn't really comprehend it.It seems like a totally unremarkable film to be worthy of a remake,but the worRAB 'worthy' and 'film remake' rarely belong in the same sentence.

I really did enjoy Fright Night when it came out,but haven't seen it for ages.I'm sure the original looks pretty cheesy now though,and a re-working of the film could be good fun.

Cliffhanger??? Even just the notion of a remake is completely bizarre to me.It is a brainless,adrenaline pumping action classic that should not be interfered with,especially with the fact that you mention,it is so young in filmic years.

I can't believe that the Hollywood brain trust are running so short of ideas that they have to remake films which are hardly older than some of my socks!! :D
 
1993 is nothing now. Rec - 2007, remake Quarantine - 2008, if I have the dates right. Don't care if it's a foreign film, it's still only a year or so apart.
 
This is a different issue; Hollywood has always remade successful foreign language films:

The Magnificent Seven is a remake of the Japanese film, The Seven Samurai.

And although it is not a Hollywood film, A Fistful of Dollars is a remake of another Japanese film, Yojimbo (although Hollywood did round to remaking it in 1996 as Last Man Standing.)
 
And you always get the know-it-all, seen-it-all critics complaining about a classic French film from 1998 being remade by Hollywood. Well most of us wouldnt want to sit through a bloody foreign film with unreadable subtitles. So good on Hollywood for doing it.
 
And that's one reason remakes get made now, because of people like you. :p



I know, I was just pointing out the time frame, that 1993 is nothing compared to a year apart. Unlike those you mentioned, Quarantine was a pointless almost shot for shot remake adding nothing new of importance.
 
It doesn't. The only good thing about that film is the start, whent the girl screams as she is about to fall from the cliff. THAT was well acted and very realistic.

The remainder of the film sucked.:p
 
Perhaps its going to reflect the times we now live in.

Before going up the mountain - all of the main characters will sit down and fill in their risk assessment forms. Health and safety will then deem the expedition to be "too risky" even if they wear personal protective equipment (PPE) ..... cut to end credits.

Of course it will be quite a short movie.
 
But probably got to a wider audience in the US than the original did. :)

The point is that, unlike the UK, mainstream US audiences aren't interested in watching subtitled films; therefore, English language remakes get the films to a wider audience.
 
Have to strongly disagree with you there, Angel Heart is an absolutely wonderful film in so many way.

It has fantastic story, pace, lighting, atmosphere and of course acting (as it's when Mickey Rourke showed real promise as an actor before it all went tits up for him).

Wouldn't want it remade though. It's perfect as it is.
 
CLIFFHANGER - will NOT be a REMAKE of the original movie, but a DIFFERENT STORYLINE

FRIGHT NIGHT - probably yhe vest for rebooting, make it into another franchise ..... like THE LOST BOYS tried!!!

Clash of the Titans is currently in production - a remake of the 1980s film. And A Nightmare On Elm Street is out next year. And Robocop is coming back too in a brand new flick.

It's like the 1980s never went away!
