3-month old chocolate lab with a weird bladder problem?

My husband and I have had our chocolate Lab puppy for almost a month. He is 3 months old today.From time to time he would not make it to the door. He would start to urinate while he was walking out the door, or while walking him to his potty spot.He wouldnt even stop.. he just kelt walking. For the most part he is potty trained, with a few accidents here and there. This new incident started about two weeks ago. I was cleaning the house and went to check on him on the kitchen where he was napping, and noticed hims going potty as he was sleeping on the floor.He didnt wake up, I had to call his name to get his attention. I took him outside right away to his normal spot where he urinated again. He has done this quiet a few times as well as when he is outside just sitting.. he will start to go. I took him to the vet on Tuesday and the vet said that for him being a 3 month old male this is very rare.He checked him stool and everything looked great as well as his boy parts.He said that this could just be a phase or we could start blood work and a urine test. He asked me to measure how much water he is drinking a day on his own. So far he averages about 7 cups of water a day. Since his vet visit he has urinated on himself at least twice a day. Has anyone encountered a similiar problem with a male puppy. I have potty trained several dogs, and this is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Any advice would help.

This sounds more like a health problem than a behavioural issue.
Urinary tract infections and diabetes are just two things that might cause this type of bladder control issue.
Definately talk to the vet about getting urine tests- this should rule out infection and diabetes- and then start looking at more serious conditions.
I hope it works out to be something simple, but definately get the tests for the vet- and infection, etc is only going to get worse if you leave it without treating it.

I know that just as children have issues with there bladders (wetting the bed) so do puppies. That's what diapers are for, right? It takes more time for some pups to be able to hold there bladder, have you ever seen a pup that urinates when they get excited. Just like with children it takes some puppies longer than others to have bladder control.

Though for a pup to urinate on himself while asleep is weird. Hopefully he is just a deep sleeper. I would try not to spend too much at the Vet, just to see if this changes as he grows and if his bladder develops some control.

I agree with getting a new Vet. Collect some urine (store it in the fridge) for your next Vet visit and take your last Vet visit paperwork with you when you go to the new Vet. It could be an infection.

My pup is about 1 year old and still pees all over when he gets really excited. Now he usually acknowledges it by licking to make it stop, but sometimes he is just to excited to stop it from happening.

Actually I have a yellow male Labrador Retriever and when he was about that age he did the same thing. He had potty training down but he could never make the door and it would do in his sleep. I got so flustrated I even put diapers on him. But that was after $1,200.00 vet bill for testing. My vet told me that it was not normal and that he needed to have test run. So I did and I was told my puppy was "Quirky" and expensive diagnosis but it was nothing serious. He also drank tons of water, more than normal but that did not account for all the issues. Happy to say he grew out of it completely. He is now 4 and has no signs of his puppyhood troubles. My vet after all the test concluded that he drank so much water and because of the kennel he came from and kennel behavior he learned and that his bladder was still in developmental stages. I hope it is the same for your guy, my boy is totally fine today but at the age it was a huge problem. He slept in bed with me and every night he would soak the bed until I figured out what was happening. I honestly stop water after a certain time, took him out every 20 minutes and got up really early. It was a lot of work but he stopped at about 5 months.
